Hey guys, started tackling a double din install last night. Looking to see if anybody has taken the useless cup holder and made it into a phone mount? What I'm looking for is to have a iPhone mount there so I can plug it in and have Apple Play come up on the radio. Have the wires hidden behind the bezel/dash and such for a clean look. Has anybody done this and have pics? I didn't see much other than people running an outlet into the center console, but the wire is still exposed there. Thanks!!
I purchased the weathertech cup holder for my vette and it didn't work. I purchased a longer cord for the phone which puts my phone in the rear hatch behind the passenger seat. Once Apple care play is up, you don't even need to see the phone.
Hope this helps.
I was going to buy a CupPhone and now I'm glad I didn't.. I was wondering about it fitting in that small cup holder that's in the car..Thanks.. Sorry you bought one to find out it sucked..

i have a Belkin cup holder and it works perfect, used in many vettes
This one is from Pro Clips and is awesome. It just snaps in. It's made for the C5. You purchase the clip and then purchase what kind of mount you want. I got the magnetic mount. Stick the magnet on the clip and a small metal plate on the back of your phone and you're good to go. I have the cable from my Kenwood coming out from the bezel right below the mount for my Apple Car Play, charging, etc...
This is what I did and I think it works great after trying several other failures. Since I did not intend on doing a "How To", I don't have all the pics necessary however if you are a little capable, you can certainly do the same if you like what you see.
I started off with this gadget from Amazon:
Of course it didn't fit the shallow cup holder so I removed the adjustable bottom section via a small nut from the bottom. I then used a 3" hole saw and cut a donut out of a clean 2"x4". I routered the edges with an 1/8" round-over bit and painted it black. I then inserted the top section of the phone holder into my home-made, black donut and it was almost perfect. To take up some of the play, I then wrapped my donut with 1-1/2" black electrical tape until it fit snug.
For me, it's exactly what I was looking for. Portrait, Landscape, Low Profile and stable!

I like that! How did you mount the Scosche magic mount to it? Did you screw through both of them?
What I did (albeit for a Garmin mount, but basically the same) was double sided tape the cupholder shut, then double sided tape the Garmin mount on top, worked great, but in reality, was too low for the sightline of the driver to be considered 'safe':
Another solution, what my dad does in our Mazda 6, is a small black disc double sided taped to the dash to the left of the center vent, then the corresponding disc-mount stuck on the back of his iPhone...this holds the phone vertically or horizontally, and is secure to the dash so it won't move.
Personally I don't use the phone while driving, too dangerous, and illegal. We'll be installing a Garmin hardwired and screwed to the top of the dash for navigation, best sightline and secure..
This is the best phone holder I've seen for the C5, compact, clean and simple. Great job ericba! I'm going with this as well. The price on Amazon dropped to $16.99 to boot!

Thanks for sharing this, and ClassicAuto for mentioning the current discount.
Has anybody seen how the 11" version looks in our cars? I'd want my phone a little higher than the 8" version. Also, they have a 15% off coupon on the 11" version which also brings it's price to $16.99. I just bought the 11".
