Default Landed a C5Z06

I purchased my 4th C5 last week. The other 3 were purchased, driven many years and sold. 3 years ago, I thought I wanted a C7, so I sold my 2000FRC I had tracked for many years along with a C6GS we had.

Well I really like the C7. BUT (now my momma said when you say BUT it cancels all statements previous) I don't LOVE it. Fast, yes good looking, yes, tight in the cabin, yes.

So, I began a search for a nice C5Z that would be a mostly track duty car, but street worthy as well. Mods will be minimal, BBK, 18" square wheel/tire and so forth. probably some Corbeau seats and a harness bar.

This C5, while having 91k on the clock had decent care. The paint is nice, interior nice. Surprisingly, it NEVER had any column lock recalls performed. First order of business was to install a LMC5. Now the project aspect. Yellow valve springs. BTR replacements, seals, and rocker trunnion upgrade in the mail. Steering rack has small leaks, both boots show a little fluid on them. Rear diff has a couple leaks. Remote clutch bleeder on order along with a pilot bearing, and I'll decide about the clutch when I go in. I can drop a drivetrain in a couple hours, so actually that is just a shoulder-down job. Oh yea when I went to move the passenger seat, the lift bar was missing. Of course the seat was all the way back, so some of you know how much cussin' it takes to move the passenger seat with no lift bar. Project 2 after the LMC5 was to make a new lift bar.

Other than that, lots of little stuff that 91k on the clock brings. The engine is strong so this will be a fun project to get back to C5's Pic below.

I looked at several. Every one that was parked out side leaked rainwater and were musty inside. I did the LMC5 CLB yesterday, and everything nice and dry with no evidence of water ever being in the footwell. I'm assuming the drip rails are still on the NOT AVAILABLE list as they were for my 00 FRC, so with that being one usual leak source, gotta be careful. i don't think the aftermarket stepped up and made replacement drip rails.

nice! I sold my C7Z and bought a V3 to daily, now looking for a higher mileage C5Z to begin tracking. It have never done it and didn't feel comfortable learning in the C7. I have noticed the weather stripping being an issue in the higher mileage vehicles.

Sold my C7 and bought my 2004 Z06. I put over 50,000 miles on the 3LT Z51 C7 and was afraid of the cost to repair the electronics (when necessary).

I bought an extended warranty for the same reason on my C7. There's more than the electronics that give me pause, the AFM valves, the A8 tranny, The ELSD diff., for example.

Today a buddy is coming over and we are going to do a complete fluid change including cycling the ABS with my scan tool. This car has the blackest brake fluid I've seen in a long time. The Clutch, ditto, just as black. The clutch will get a remote bleeder in a couple weeks. The Previous owner knew how to polish paint, but it is beginning to look like he only did what he thought was needed maintenance-wise. Brake fluid was not on his list...... I'm sure I will find some other little nits like that.

What 18” wheels did you choose?
Also just bought a C5 Z06 for a track car. It still has the staggered wheel setup and I want a square set of 18’s.

I was so close to doing the same thing... sold my C7 as I never loved it and it's more involved to work on everything than the C5Z for track duty. Ended up going all in on a C8, but will have another mint yellow C5Z one day.

Finding OEM rear 18x10.5 is getting harder, but they are ideal; especially forged Alcoas from 2001. TSW has some cheap 18x10.5 that seem to hold up well enough to track abuse but the offset is a smidge more inboard than the C5Z OEM rear. I can't recall the exact offsets right now, but I put a set on my C7 and they fit better than the OEM C5 ones (C7 and C6 base need a really high offset). I just remembered... OEM C5Z wheels are +56 and the TSWs are +65 so they TSWs sit 9mm more inward.
