Default New owner intro

I recently picked up a 2002 z06. Really enjoying it so far! I come from a background of mostly german sports cars. I have an e36 m3 that I race with NASA in their GTS-3 class. It is very fast and fun on the track. I also have an NA miata that we race endurance with WRL GP4. My GF drives a base 718 cayman. October of '19 I sold another e36 m3 street car I had spent a lot of time refreshing (all new suspension, brakes, etc.) that was my fun street car. I was looking at a bunch of different cars, not entirely certain what I wanted to replace it. I drove various Porsches and BMWs. One day I decided to test drive a c5 z06 on craigslist. I bought it two days later. It is in good shape but not perfect, 68.5k miles when I bought it. I love how raw it is. Exactly what I want in a sports car. Engaging, firm suspension, nice gearbox with a firm clutch, and of course the motor! A performance bargain for what I paid.

I ordered a bunch of fluids. Will be doing new oil, transmission fluid, gear oil (all AMSOIL) and brake fluid (Motul RBF 600). I also ordered some stainless steel brake lines I will swap on. It needs tires, and I am going back and forth on what to do there. Leaning towards picking up two more rear wheels and doing a square setup with 285/35r18 michelin ps4s. If not that, probably some continental 275/295 on the stock 17/18 wheels. Plans are to leave it largely stock. I find it to be a very fun car in stock form. I like driving cars that feel fresh, so I am inclined to refresh the suspension bushings, shocks, etc. Once I get it up in the air for the fluids, I will check over the bushings, endlinks, etc. I am getting a clunking sound at lower speeds over bumps.

The shift boot squeaks a bit when in gears 1, 3 and 5. When I pull the boot up to the shift ****, it goes away. So might buy a new ****, boot and boot retainer of some kind. Also. there is an annoying rattle/buzz coming from the center console area. Not the best video, but here it is. If anyone has any ideas, they are greatly appreciated. Video:

Thanks guys, look forward to learning more about this great car.

I work with a bunch of Electrical engineers - they made it clear to me - Motors run on electricity - Engines run on gasoline.

You will find a lot of nitpickers here - but its all in good fun.

Enjoyed reading about your other rides - interesting "progression." My '00 Pewter FRC similar to yours. Eventually you'll get onto other things like seat swaps and lighting upgrades - but sounds like you are getting the important items first
