I'm thinking about changing out my wheels again...hasn't been that long since I bought my current setup but I'm finding quite a few Vettes around my area have the same wheels. I like to be a little different so I may decide to change again, I'm sure the wife won't like it since I'll be spending more money and then have to sell the ones I have now.... I'm looking at the Cray Eagle wheels with the silver finish and mirror lip and face in the 18X9 front and 19X10.5 rears. If anyone has these on thier C5 I'd love to see your pictures of what they look like and what you think of them. I've already got the quote for a set but I'm going to think about this for a bit until after I do my taxes to make sure I can afford them for sure or not. But I do want to see if anyone else has them and what they think of them.
This is what I'm looking at but I can't find any reviews on what people think of them. These pictures are from a thread that hasn't been posted in since 08/2018 so I didn't want to resurrect that thread, plus nobody has posted anything about them there either.
They’re beautiful Mark. Hard to stay ‘individual’ for long with everything so available. I think Cray and TSW are the best design/quality/price wheels available. My Nurburgrings have a mirror finish lip/face with painted inners.
The only thing I have heard was the Cray wheels are heavy. You might want to check out the weight difference between your wheels and the Crays. They do look nice.
Aren’t the Forgelines very expensive? I looked at a website and they were $1500 each?
Yes but the guys that change wheels every time the ashtray gets full, would save money by biting the bullet and getting what they REALLY WANT, the first time. One of my friends on here, who shall remain nameless, is on his 6th or 7th set of aftermarket wheels, on his C5Z. Heck, I'm already on my second set of CCW's and I've only owned my car less than 18mos.
I just used Forgelines as an example because if ever buy a set, I'm done playing wheel musical chairs. Everybody and their brother doesn't have those wheels.
(I can get a 20%-25% price break on Forgelines)
Thanks for the comments. I’m leaning towards the Crays at the moment but have to wait and see how much the tax season takes from me. I don’t have my old wheels anymore either but that really wouldn’t matter because I changed them to get upsized tires and wheels since the size I had were getting harder to find. I’ll have to do more research and check on the weight also. More thinking it seems...
USAZR1, gotcha. I think, due to my experience with the cheap C7Z06 repros, besides the lack of quality, the 20 spoke format especially in chrome was too much maintenance. My mirror face/painted Nurburgrings and the machine faced wheels I had on my SRT8 taught me that I could have fairly low maintenance wheels with good looks as well.
Hence, if I were to do it ALL over again I’d go for a set of OEM C6 GS chrome wheels in C6 sizes like Ed Iverson did. Open design, easy to clean and fairly unique looks, especially on a C5.
Never realized how much some will spend on stuff, but we’re doing a kitchen bump out, so car stuff is on the back burner.
One of the reasons I’m considering keeping what I have is the Cray wheels I posted do have a few more spokes and will require more tedious cleaning. Not really something I’m looking forward to. The wheels you had on your STR8 were easy to maintain with the mirror finish?
Yes, they were easier than chrome, and with only 5 spokes attending to the barrels was also easy, including behind the spoke where it met the rim. The only problem I’ve found with “large’ flat expanses of clear coat machine/mirror faced products is that water spots show up easier, but with someone as diligent as you that might be a non issue. My Nurburgrings, tho’ 14 spoke, are fairly easy for the same reason, just a little more detail to deal with.
Styles differ in various locations, but I can state pretty confidently that the MRR’s you have are very uncommon here in NJ. If anything it’s the repro C6ZR1’s and C7Z06 rims are the most popular.
I had Cray Scorpions in the same sizes you’re considering before replacing them a couple years ago with CCWs. The Cray wheels were high quality and balanced perfectly. One rear wheel required 1 gram weight , the other no weight at all. The fronts took maybe a gram each. The rears had 305/30/19 Michelin Pilot Super Sports which rubbed the wheel well liner ever so slightly sometimes, but my ‘02 is lowered about .75” or so. I miss the Cray wheels, especially the ease of maintenance compared to the polished CCWs I now have. The wheel you’re considering looks great!! Good luck with you choice.
I just ordered a set of TSW Interlagos in silver for my 2000 Silver coupe. 18/19 set, Hankook Ventus V12 tires. Cant wait to see them. I love this style of the Crays too but the TSW was a killer set for the clearance price of 894 shipped from Doc

I recently bought a set of Cray Manta wheels for my '98. I didn't want the "Cray" center cap and had a difficult time finding a C5 cap that would fit. Finally found the part number that fits perfectly in the Cray wheels... #959-3807 if interested. Photo of wheel on my car. Very happy with the look... Total cost including mounting, balancing, TPMS installation was around $1600.00.
