If it was me, I would get a C5. It has good power and a good example can be had for around $10k if you look hard enough. That will give you plenty of spending room for mods when you get bored. You are 19, you will want to have money for other fun things to do as well. Buy a C5 out of state for $10k, and have a road trip driving it back home. Would make for a great story and experience.

It's a good option. But think back when you were 19
and 30 looked like a long way off. We were all 19
once ...and I want it NOW!!

lol I agree as much as I wouldn’t of wanted to hear this when I was 19. When I was 19 and got my first “real job” and purchased a brand new 2008 left over c6 base. 51 was the sticker paid 42. Traded in a paid off car and put down some cash (5-6k) and still paid 600 a month.
I really often think about what that 600 dollars a month would be worth today if I invested it in the right channels or my down payment money.
I did sell the car 2 years later to purchase my first house as I realized my mistake but some of the damage had already been done.
edit: I think you can get a C5 for more reasonable price closer to what you’ll get out of the car you have now without putting too much on top. I prefer the C5 I have now to the c6 I had then in a handful of ways.

If i were you, i'd look at both the C6 base model and the GS/Z06 body styles. Although they look close in pics, they are drastically different in person.
After eyeballing the widebody GS/Z06, the base C6 body looked too "plain and uninspiring" to me.YRMV
Fast
Everything Fast81 says plus the fact that when I was deciding on my first corvette, I’d already driven a C5Z. I happened to drive a brand new c6 base. After driving it, I went home and called the seller of the C5 to seal the deal.
In your case I think you like the C6 better so you should get that ! I myself do not like the front end or the headlights on the C6 that's why I stuck to my C5 all these years. Plus its not too expensive to make a C5 push 400+ ! I know people talk about C5 interior but I really don't like the C6 interior and I prefer the C5 interior for some reason! I find it much sporty and
when I drove a friends 2005 C6 I felt like I was driving a cobalt with that steering wheel so made my decision and kept my C5. the only C6 I would ever consider is a C6Z in yellow if
it was the right price, even then I might just jump to C7. Im not telling you not to get the C6 or bashing it as I still drool every time I see a clean C6 driving by like any other Corvette but I much prefer my FRC.

Now he cannot say, “no one told him...”.
The want it now lifestyle lacks self discipline. It isn’t what the OP wants to hear, but it’s the answer that grows his wealth, helps himself, family, and others. It’s the answer that gets him 3 vettes in the future.
Its the answer the young man needs and deserves to hear.

Thanks for sharing. Good story! I am hopeful the OP learns from it.

I was born poor and was not in the money most of my life. Still, at age 47 I finally got my Gen X childhood dream: my 1998 C5. It isn't the fastest but It's Paid For!

Unless your friend changed out the steering wheel in their 2005 C6, the 2005 C6 had the same steering wheel as the C5’s. Steering wheel didn’t change until the 2006 model year.
I do agree with you that the C5 interior is much better than the C6. The C6 interior is so plain. The C5 interior is a much better design.

Really?!? I would not have guessed - always thought my C5 interior was bland, relatively speaking, and always wondered how much of an upgrade the C6's interior is, lol!
Isn't it (the C6's interior) up to date with 'Modern', so to speak, this is not the case ?!?
Being that the C6 platform launched in '05, no, it's not up to par with modern offerings. I have an '09 with the top trim. (3ZR) Minus the steering wheel, it looks very nice. Nicer than either of my C5's. Nothing to write home about, but the stitched leather, faux carbon fiber console, and other updates make it livable for me. Only pic I have on this phone, unfortunately.
I’ve owned 3 C5’s (2001, 2003 and 2004) and 3 C6’s (2007, 2010 and 2013). All have been convertibles except the 2010 which was a Grand Sport coupe. My current one is the 2004. The C6’s are great cars, especially the 2008 and later with the LS3 engine. I would definitely buy a 2012 or 2013 Grand Sport convertible, if the right car and deal presented itself. But, I personally like the C5 interior over the C6 interior.

Here's my 03 Z06 Interior, pretty nice looks good.
Looks great! I thought my '04 Z had an awesome interior. It was Mod Red. The C6 interior honestly looks very similar. When I replace the seats, head unit, and steering wheel, it'll be much better.

Thanks yea lol it was going to get all these things@!
Both are tremendous cars, you really can't go wrong. Newer is usually cheaper and more reilable. I like the fixed roof coupe on my c5 z06 but the convert and targa top add to the driving experience so its a toss up.The cockpit on the c6 is raised so you sit in more on the c5. I would suggest going as new as you can afford.
