So this is something I would have never considered 5 years ago but after being on the market now for a long time with good reviews I am considering dipping my Z06 rims black. I wanted to hear from others who have dipped their wheels and their experiences with durability. The plastidip company has come up with a new formula called hyperdip which is suppose to be better in color and formula. I believe I would go with gloss black since I find matte finishes attract a lot of dirt and looks bad quickly without frequent cleanings. Any tips from those who have done it are appreciated. Thanks!
I pasti-dipped mine about 1 and 1/2 years ago and they still look as good as the day I did them. They do attract more dirt with the matte finish but I think if you use the glossifier you will be happy.
I would do it again. I took them off the car to do it. Much easier that way. Just make sure they are as clean as you can get them and sanded if they have rough spots. Just follow the directions and take your time.
This may be a bit off-topic, but I actually plasti dipped my brake calipers. Now, my Vette is not a daily driver, gets taken out for cruise-ins and date nights. But the dip has held up over 900 miles of driving this past year, and have never blistered or discolored. I couldn't make up my mind what color I wanted to go with the green body, and I really liked this accent. I plan to keep them this color. Hope I haven't hijacked the thread, just wanted you to know you can do the calipers when you dip your wheels This is what I started with, spent much time cleaning before I even removed the old rusty rotors Here is the caliper, painted Green Gold Pearlizer from a retail can, right from my local Pep Boys store. I sprayed a base of black 1st, then three coats of Green Gold, then two coats of glossifier. And the finished product!
They look good. Like I said I would have never considered it 5 years ago but it seems like the product is actually holding up well and is a good product. I’m going to give it a go once the hyperdip gloss is back in stock.
Plasti-dip is a lot tougher than you might think. When I purchased my car, its wheels were plasti-dipped Matte Black, about five years prior, and the stuff was still in excellent condition.
Wow. Yeah for 5 years old those look excellent. Like I said, I would have never considered this 5 years ago but it seems like the product is really holding up. How was the matte black with attracting dirt and looking dirty quick?
Matte finishes suck for retaining brake dust and other kinds. Since I hate black wheels on just about everything, I had mine brushed and powdercoated. Now, they're easy to maintain. Different strokes, for different folks

Here are some jobs I did in matte black from the cans!
What I used after they dried was either Dipcoat, or simple quick detail spray. Makes dirt and brake dust almost slide right off if maintained! And adds a nice sheen!
Also a great matte black alternative and one of my favorites is the anthracite metallic, also in spray can form! Super great coverage, still dark, but has a really nice metallic effect!
I used super wrap spray on vinyl and had good results. Check out my instagram "eb_z06" for the pictures. The super wrap vinyl is literally a billion zillion times higher quality than any ricer plastidip junk finish. Just don't get too wild with your wheel nut socket or it can rub the coating off (also see instagram)

What is better about that product? Plastidip/Hyperdip seems to have an extremely good track record on look and durability.

Plastidip and similar products are spray on rubber and super wrap is vinyl. Vinyl can be shiny smooth and glossy nearly on the level of paint. Plastidip is fine if you like matte finishes. Their glossifier product that tries to make it shiny looks pretty terrible at best. The super wrap finish looks pretty nice on its own and is designed to be covered with a clear coat that looks really great when you're done It can also be waxed just like a vinyl wrap on your body.

Yep it is. Similar to plastidip and others the more coats you use the better it comes off but I have not tried removing it. My buddy liked the wheels I did so much he bought them out from under the car lol.
