Anyone know what kind of shifter this is. It was in my C5 when I purchased it. It's a little notchy but it has a short throw. Have the console out while upgrading to dbl din radio. C5 shifter
Hurst shifters are gold. The color not the precious metal. Looks like a knock-off as I can see what looks like a spring inside but the top and color are wrong for a Hurst.
First take that shifter apart, clean and lubricate it. Then adjust the shifter to the trans using the pin or a small drill bit. Then anti-venom mod and new trans fluid. I use Amsoil fluid and like it a lot. No problems in over 130K miles.
Change your clutch fluid too. Either "Ranger Method" or bleeding.

Can't answer your question but would recommend what others have said about the anti-venom mod, ranger method at a minimum for clutch fluid, and add in changing out the transmission fluid.
My MGW shifter is notchy and I actually enjoy a fairly notchy shifter but did notice a nice overall shifting improvement with some less notchniess by doing just the anti-venom mod and new transmission fluid. I'll be changing out to a tick master cylinder next week so only have done the basic ranger method regarding the clutch fluid.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll start by taking it apart aligning and greasing it. The part of the linkage that goes into the shifter box looked like it could use some grease too. Never taken one of these apart. Does the top just come off with the 4 bolts?
I've heard about the anti venom mod and will do it too. The shifter is probably as old as the car, a 04 C5.
Has anyone moved the shifter around when it’s not bolted to the car?
It just flops around. Smooth as glass.
Look at the ball shaped divots in this picture. This is where your notchy feeling comes from as a spring loaded ball detent pops in and out of each divot as you move the shifter.
The anti-venom mod and fresh fluid are the only things you can do to address notchiness.

You might also consider replacing those shifter rubber bushings too. Looks cracked and brittle.

I agree. I've had a Hurst in my C-5 since '02, and it doesn't look like that one........
If you replace those bushings in the lower box you can probably improve the shifting substantially...those look pretty rotten and gnarly. They are important.

Ordered a set of the bushings. Can they be replaced without removing the box.

I believe it is an olfer B&M, I have one that I took out and will probably put back in as it is spring loaded and I believe it alleviates vibration. I went with Tmod box and shifter and have a noisey vibration at certain RPMs that I didn't have with the B&M.

Agreed... the part directly under the screw head surrounds the bushing. No way you'll slip a bushing past that. BUT you may be able to take out only one screw at a time to replace the bushings so that you don't lose your shifter alignment.
