Can we agree that anyone who puts an exhaust on these cars and mentions "drone" either as an issue or a proponent for any one model vs another needs to just downshift or re-examine why they are putting an exhaust on in the first place?
I've been here since 2000 with my first C5 and this "pinkies out" topic needed addressing.
I have about 100 miles on my Borla stingers and I still don't know what drone sounds like... every time I try to listen for it I remind myself not to fix what isn't broken.
I used to get it on cruise at 1600-1800 with my Stingers on headers and Xpipe. Simple enough to speed up or downshift. Average Highway speeds here have gone up in recent years. I haven't had drone in any recent memory. And the car sounds proper.
I have MASSIVE drone in my black 99 (SC, long tube headers, and straight pipe) so I did some MASSIVE sound deadening (and sound absorbing materials) to it. Did it get rid of the drone, of course not, but it definitely helped a lot.
I had done the same as far as sound deadening. My motivation was road noise in the coupe and to optimize my stereo at the time. Attention to the trunk wall and fender covers had great impact overall.
PRT's are a deeper tone but on par with Corsa Extreme AFAIK. I researched the crap out of my exhaust combo before settling on Corsa Sport. Extreme/PRT's would have been too obnoxious too much of the time for me to want it, but reportedly no drone.
In terms of OP getting offended with people asking about drone...why don't you complain about Z06 tire option threads, "what exhaust is best" threads, "what battery is best" threads. Some people have more tolerance than others for cabin resonance. I, for one, despise drone/cabin resonance. It physically takes a toll on me on long trips. I also am not willing to "drive around" the drone. IMO, I make cars do what I want them to do.
I bet 50% of the "drone" threads are not actually drone lol. Everyone has a different interpretation/threshold on when something drones and when it does not. Not to mention Corvette owners are "different" most of the time. Easily startled and quick to complain. It's not like this 20+year old C5's were built like a Mercedes...it's a cheap/crappy plastic interior surrounded by great engineering/chassis design made to perform that has the ability to be daily driven. You want a quiet cabin? Buy a Cadillac/Mercedes/BMW.
So like you say "just downshift or just accelerate"....why don't you "just move on with life and not focus on the drone threads"? Maybe make your life less stressful?
End rant about OP's rant...

I only notice it on the rare occasions I have a passenger. Then I'm like, why are we yelling? It's better now that I fixed the AC system, so I don't have to have the windows down as well. haha

It a lot worse with an automatic. And its two fold...One you can shift around the drone and two you have 3.42s that help getting you out of the drone sweet spot. I love a louder exhaust and for 17 years lived with drone on two different catbacks. There was simply no getting around drone for me with headers and a 3.15 rear...I finally gave in an bought a z06 system.....no more drone

Nothing wrong with having a concern about the amount of drone coming from an exhaust system. Various exhaust manufacturers have put a lot of effort into reducing this on their systems. I know I prefer an exhaust that does not beat me to death with unwanted noise vibrations.
