I didn’t like the look of the extended antenna on my vert either but didn’t want mod the car. I just unplugged the power to the motor. It stays down and really hasn’t effected the reception that I can tell so far.
Another option would be to install a wireless switch as explained hereand retain the capability to use the antenna when needed, but now you are in control.
With a wireless switch, the installation couldn't be easier or less disruptive: no wires to run or holes to drill

How would I go about to unplugging the power cable?

Or you can just pull the fuse. That's what I did and even with the antenna down, I still pull in most local stations, however I listen to my iTunes library most of the time via Apple Car Play through my aftermarket DD unit.
Regarding the OP's request, I saw a You Tube video that showed how to swap it out. After removing the retractable antenna and motor, you then wire in a Z06 OEM mount/antenna which then gets swapped out with a stubby antenna which simply screws on. I will try to find it.

The real challenge is finding a Z06 antenna assembly. I had a WTB thread here for one and got a single hit in 1.5 months. Couldn't find any on ebay either.
Don't buy these stubby antenna's off of ebay that claim they will fit a corvette convertible. Most will not!!!! The power antenna bezel is different from a manual antenna bezel. My nylon tale broke on mine so I took it apart and put it back in without the antenna. I bought a chrome cap at Home Depot and put it over the antenna hole. I had it that way for a couple of years. A couple of months ago I bought the stubby power antenna conversion kit at www.theantennasource.com It's awesome. The best $48.00 I've spent on a corvette mod. Even if you don't get the conversion kit, they have all the antenna parts you need for your vette.
