I notice the few lights that are on go bright or dim depending on sunlight reflected off of my right hand on the wheel. At first I thought I had an intermittent connection, but I found that it is normal, so I don't pay attention to it anymore. There are 2 light sensors in the dash that sense ambient light levels, when the light outside gets dim (sun behind a cloud) the display is dimmed, sun comes out, they brighten.

I was wrong, there is only one, the one you found. Another light sensor is located in the defrost exhaust duct for the AC, I don't know if its readings affect anything else.
