Converting my '00 FRC to a Double DIN stereo and have run into a problem. I bought the DD bezel from VetteNuts, but my problem is with the brackets. I can't seem to get the unit up high enough to close the gap with the top of the bezel. No matter what hole combination I've tried I end up with a gap between the top of the stereo and the top edge of the bezel opening. In addition the printed plastic brackets are breaking from repeated removal, adjustment and re-installation. I trimmed the turned down piece at the bottom of the dashpad so that's not keeping me from moving the unit up.Any SUggestions or has anyone else run into this?
I had a lot of trouble with mine but as able to find a couple things to help.
1. Watch this video. This is from an installer who goes through how he adjusts the brackets to close up gaps and had some really good ideas I had not thought of before.
2. I was able to find a vendor on ebay that had metal brackets instead of plastic ones and they were slotted so you can adjust them easily in any direction and then lock them down.
That made all the difference for me. I looked online and looks like the seller isn't offering them right now, but his ebay user name is: icecnc.

Thanks! I saw the adjustable brackets he made too. I've sent him a message through EBay but haven't received a response yet.
No Problem. He was slow to respond on mine and their was a shipping issue but he finally got it straight. I'm very happy with the brackets. Much more stable than the Metra ones and you can adjust them perfectly.
Hope he gets back to you.

That video is GREAT. I wish I had someone that good that I trust to do the double din in my car. I don't want to do it myself. Im capable, just lazy.
But I don't trust anyone else to do a job that good......so I will end up doing it myself.
Yeah they do all kinds of videos going through different vehicle installs.
All very well laid out with tips and tricks.
I fought really hard to get my to look right and part of me thought that had to deal with my dash kit, but using what I learned from that video I was able to get it looking good.
The shape of that bezel is also a nightmare. That's why I love the C6 console as the radio is a very simple install without having to buy a whole new dash piece.
I'm subscribing to this for the info as I'm going to be in this boat by the end of the year I hope. If everything falls into place of course. Thanks for the directions.

Had the same problem with my install. I used some thin half inch washers and elongated the holes in the plastic brackets once I got the alignment close. I used the supplied screws and the half inch washers to lold the bracket to the radio. It worked nicely because I basically had infinite adjustment of the position of the radio. The washers assured the the bracket was held tightly to the radio.

Honestly the worst part is just getting the old support brackets removed. I drilled the rivets out in mine in case I ever wanted to put everything back to stock and it took a lot longer than expected.
Mainly it's just the angle and position in the car that makes it tough. I used a 90 degree drill attachment and eventually got them out. Shavings were a mess too.
I've see other people just sawzall the brackets out or grind the rivet heads off with a dremil.
As nice as the VetteNuts double din bezel is, the mounting kit it comes with is complete garbage. I ended up breaking mine too but managed to get it to work
I also made my own. The plastic brackets just break. I don't know why Vettenuts and others promote plastic and "carbon fiber" brackets. I just used simple 90-degree galvanized metal brackets designed for installing fencing from Home Depot and modified them to meet my needs. Took a bit of measuring and testing but once done are every bit as strong as the very expensive aftermarket mounts. But I worked at a car stereo shop back in my young & stupid youth when there was only 4 track and 8 track car stereo units. We had to make every bracket by hand to fit every car we installed. Then came cassette stereos and still no aftermarket custom brackets. My 90-degree galvanized metal brackets took several trial and error fittings work very well and are very sturdy
Metal brackets are definitely the way to go. There is also some trial and error involved and I would consider it an intermediate to advanced type install. Looks awesome when done right!
I will second or third that the Vettenuts mounting brackets are garbage. Some people have broken them just staring at them wrong.
I ended up making my own out of aluminum.
If I had it to do all over again I would have bought the ebay brackets but that seller doesn't seem to be making them anymore.
Here are my homemade ones.
I think it would be different if they were using injection molded plastic as they would be stronger, but the printed plastic ones will disintegrate especially if you have to remove to adjust. I found some DD metal brackets from china that I ordered.
