Default 2004 battery hold down and bolt , OOPS!!

yeah , i put a new battery in the 2004 and dropped hold down and bolt . think it went down an opening that is toward front and middle of car . probably retrievable by a pro but not by this old man . instructions please , do i leave it and if so will it rattle or do i pay a pro to get it out . seems like i leave it but could use suggestions as to a source for new part . good news is car now starts but i haven't looked to see status of radio and ''no'' i don't have a code for radio so probably will need suggestions about that also . sorry to be a pain , please keep in mind you to will be ''elderly '' some day and sooner than you realize . . . .peace

It’s probably down by the computer and vacuum canister. The panel behind the tire comes off for access. I have a 10mm socket that I dropped down there last week that I need to find!

Remove the lower right front wheel well panel (just held on by screws) and you have access to the area under the battery. Very easy to do.

Here is what I use to retrieve stuff that has fallen. Works great as long as the stuff is iron.

@bigcypress With a little luck, perhaps the previous owner wrote the code in the user manual after enabling the TheftLock feature. It might be worth it to take a look.

If not, there is a documented process (just search the forum) to recover the code that involves calling an 800 number.

Unfortunately, the 800 number has been reported as not working anymore, but take a look at this Thread for another solution. It is not free, but $19.99 seems reasonable compared to what dealers usually quote.

If you decide to solve this, I suggest you disable the locking feature right away. At this point, it only brings headaches.

I have a small box end ratchet wrench that I end up dropping down there every other time I disconnect the battery. I use the a magnetic pick-up tool to fetch it back.

For some reason my that bolt and hold down like to dive down below the battery case frequently. Easiest way I've found is to use a shop vac. Enough suction to grab the thing, but it's too big to be sucked into the vacuum.

found the vacuum a fascinating suggestion but the winner is .....the magnet suggestion . taped a magnet to a long dowel and caught hold down immediately ...4 or 5 times . couldn't get it turned to come out of opening but finally got bolt end up where i could grab it and it really felt good [ emotionally ] . can't thank you folks enough as i was really distressed about this and now it's solved and i am happy , a rare , RARE feeling for me . thanks to all who responded . . . . peace
