New wheels

If you are even a little like me, the wheel and tire selection couldn't have been a snap decision, there are too many ways to go.
I am in the market, so your post was timely. I am keeping the stock set up , my lowered used car came that way, and it seems to be the best choice for my intended grand tours. I am interested in low rolling resistance, so don't want to go wider, and most of the aftermarket wheels are for guys wanting to ditch the factory set up, so it really limits my selection.
I have been thumbing through wheel websites that are always throwing bigger wheel sizes at me , it's like picking brown M and M"s out of a pile. So I wind up reading all the fine print, not by choice, and for the most part, if a wheel is offered in 17 and 18, it is offered in the wider Z size, and won't fit the base tire widths.
so I decided to work on the tire decision first, since those sites only show the sizes requested. Trying to go lightweight with the wheels, but not many constructors match the Stock stuff for weight and build quality, further complicating my deal, I don't want to take a step backward from stock, but how much to spend on an old chevy is still unresolved.
Any tire will work for the way I drive, but me ego, and imagination, has a few more pressing demands. I have always liked Michelin tires, you can't go wrong with that brand according to me, but they are too heavy for my chevy. I have heard Toyo are a very round, well made tires, but have no way to confirm the rounder than most info I came across. I have come across a few Michelin owners who had trouble with balancing their new tires, but I don't have enough info to effect my favorable experience and perception of the brand.
My dad was a pilot in the war, so I grew up checking the sky at any noise from passing aircraft, just like dad. As a fan of flying machines, I am big on the Goodyear blimp, it flies in my area , and is a spectacular sight flying low and slow overhead. More so when you see it power sliding across the sky on the spring winds.
So I was going to buy Goodyear to support their flying billboard, plus they just released a new all season performance tire, lighter by pounds than the Michelin . A major player with a new design is good enough for me, plus they sponsor motorsports, so I was now only restricted by the width of the rim for my other buying decision, the rims.
then I saw the Micky Thompson tires, and liked the cosmetic effect a lot more, plus they are also a light weight design, but look possibly a touch noisy, I have an open car and enjoy a quiet ride. Further complications are the stock OEM size only will go to 9 inches wide, so anything that is not strictly stock size will be hard to find, unless I spend custom money. I'd rather not spend that much in one area of a car that needs some money applied, generally, everywhere.
If anyone has experience with Toyo or Mickey Thompson street tires, I would welcome any thoughts.
Always enjoyed every time I spent in San Francisco. didn't talk cars much when I was there, but was told a brake job once a year was the way to go by the guy I was visiting. He needed a very strong legal position if things went awry , as a professional pot dealer, he didn't need any complicated explanations to the judge. His girl was s friend of my girl, he only sold for half of the year, and had a modest but nice victorian house in town. A transplanted New Yorker, he wound up pounding the wheel screaming , while sitting across both lanes of the two way street , because of the traffic we encountered going to the movies. you can take the guy out of NY, but you can't, well, you know the rest.
PS. I wish that every man could enjoy a red sports car at some point in life. if I had a bucket list, a red sports car would be on it. my convertible is black, but sported a few girls around in the past , red car, top down. I like to relax in Santa Cruz and drive into the city every once in a while , I like that town. When I can take a beautiful historic Italian street car lined with wood inside or an English one shaped like a double ended boat, down to the ferry building and great food, I can work with al the usual urban problems every world class city exhibits.
