Looking at replacing my head unit. I have seen two of the interface things to make the new head unit work with
the Bose speakers. My question is. Is one better than the other? Which one gives me the most control and I won't
lose features? Any guidance is appreciated. Will get to the speakers after Christmas(I'll hint for speakers).
Lots of opinions on this. Best is probably to search on Axxess and read various threads. Axxess seems to be the most popular right now, but its not without some bugs.
Actually I would use the PAC interface. It does not have the retained power function which has caused issues in some cars. Just undid a bad Best Buy install that used the Axxess interface that was causing a battery drain issue.

@larney Either one will perform well when correctly installed, although the Axxess offers better system integration as a result of interfacing with the Serial Data Bus. That's why the difference in price.
interfaces with the Serial Data Bus, in addition to preserving the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) feature, it does not need an external "Accessory" switched power connection.
doesn't interface with the Serial Data Bus, it doesn't preserve RAP and requires the extra switched connection mentioned above. The headunit's OEM harness lacks this connection, but it can be easily brought from an unused harness (except '04) in the passenger's footwell that has 3 wires (yellow: switched via Fuse 11, orange: always hot via Fuse 7 and black: ground).
The Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Feature allows the radio to continue playing for approximately 10 min or until a door is opened, whichever happens first, after the ignition switch is turned off.
If you don't want to lose features (RAP), the Axxess is the one to use.
That's whatt I was looking for. Great info and very helpful to me. Much appreciated. Now to buy and attempt the install. Haven't installed a car stereo in probably 16 years.. this should be fun.

I'm in the middle of a double din installation using the Axxess module on my 2001 coupe. Hacking out the radio cross member was the worst part so far, but there's plenty to do to grab all of the little things that matter...
1. VSS from PCM to new radio.
2. Supplying 5VDC to the Coupe Radio Signal On wire at C1 (pin 6 / pink).
Then the new mic for calls, GPS antenna location and how could we ignore a backup camera?
3. Backup Light signal (12VDC) from relay 38 under hood in fuse center or from a backup light when energized.
