Narrow miss (windshield), glad youre ok.
Doubt a deer would sail above the car, thats a lot of weight hitting the glass no doubt it woulda gone right though it.
Doh!
Glad no one was hurt except your poor car. Frinkin' wildlife can sure make our Corvette break. I hit a possum last fall and it cost $4,500 in repairs. I've also totaled two vehicles by suicidal deer. Luckily, neither of those were Corvettes.
I'm curious on "Marc at Vettenutts and got an OEM bumper cover, a used headlight assembly and a used fender all shipped home. When we returned home our trusted body man couldn’t use the fender because of it’s condition so he sourced a new fender.". What was wrong with the fender Marc sent? Did ya get your $ back for it? I recommend Marc a lot on the forum and hopefully everything turned out okay.
Knewblewkorvett, Everything is fine as far as I’m concerned in my dealings with Marc. Marc described the fender honestly as used and serviceable and so it was. My body man didn’t like the layers of paint built up on it and a broken tab where a screw was to hold it on near the bottom toward the door. I have tried to reach Marc but his e-mail has been full but in all honesty I don’t expect him to refund my money. For all he knows I could be trying to return my original damaged fender as his fender shipped to me. Realistically that would be poor business and a great leap of faith.
I’m totally satisfied with the OEM bumper cover and the used headlight assembly that I received and I m OK with eating the price of the used fender. It’s all good and I will use Vettenutts and Marc again and do recommend him to others.
Respect, Frank
Not living in deer country, but enjoying car trips, I always read these deer impact stories with interest. I am glad no one was hurt Still looking for deer impact loopholes, but guess night driving has the worst odds.
I have read that deer whistles were tested and found to be ineffective , but no tests details were supplied with that report.
. I would think that if the whistle did cause a aversive reaction, this is the kind of animal that will run first, and think later, as suggested by another post, they might just run towards your car.
Late last fall, we hit a stag at about 40 mph in our "other" car. He bolted out right in front of us. The impact spun him round and his antler took out the passenger door skin. Despite the car being drivable, it was a $6,500 repair - all new front facia and trim, complete with all the support structures, light assemblies, new hood, new door, new front fenders, and a new "radar" cruise control unit behind the grille, which of course had to be re-aligned by the dealer. I have to say that our insurer - Allstate - was a dream to deal with over the whole thing.
At least we were not hurt - courtesy of driving a 2 ton luxobarge with a "perfect" IIHS rating.. Air bags did not even deploy. And the b****y deer even ran away!
If anyone needs a body shop in Frederick, MD (where the accident happened), I have a recommendation - no-one would ever know our car had ever been repaired - a perfect job.
I'm interested in who did your work. Our CRV got crunched and we are looking to get it repaired.
Hi
Sorry about your encounter with a deer, car looks great now.
When I was a Police Officer I totaled a brand new police car hitting a large buck. Car had less than 500 miles on it, Chief not happy at all. LOL
