Had a 78 Silver for almost 40 years and sold it due to a move and downsize. No regrets but still got the itch, soooooo... looking at a 2003 50th convertible or a commemorative 2004, convertible. any thoughts?? Not looking for a collector so a few more miles doesn't scare me
thanks
There is a ton of good info in the stickies.
The only down side to either of those models is some late 03s and 04s is they can have a gas tank problem which is an expensive fix. From another thread: "fuel tanks transfer leaking connection problems in VIN #'s between 45110258 to 45125500"

Unfortunately there is no way to tell if the gas tank problem exists in any of the affected VINs. However the failure rate has been relatively low and I would think that most of them have already failed during the infant mortality period when new. So there is a low risk of failure in a late 03 thru 04 model year C5. It seems like there are a few failures reported every year on this forum. It's not like every one of them will fail. There are about 15000 cars in the affected S/N range. How many have failed? If you are looking at one in the affected S/N range, price it accordingly to how adverse you are to risk. I bought one 2 years ago and so far so good.
