Those of you pushin 500hp+ to the ground via 6spd, are you able to hook up at all? If so, what rubber keeps you sticky allowing you to hook up without sliding all over the place through 3rd or 4th? Specifically with traction control disabled.

I have Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They work fine in 3rd and 4th. However, I do have to go easy in 1st and through my shift into 2nd or the back end will get squirrely. The traction control usually keeps things from getting too bad though if I muck it up too badly. Once I'm in 2nd, I can get on it a bit harder. I've found smooth throttle application is key. If you just mash it, you'll be in trouble. The other thing that helps a lot is upgrading your suspension. If you're on a stock suspension, you'll definitely want to stiffen things up a bit.
I tried DRs for the first time and they certainly make a big difference. I am running NT555R which are on the more street friendly end of the spectrum. Of course it's not as good as some other DRs or mickey thompsons etc...but IMO it's not a bad compromise. I haven't noticed issues with sloppy handling or soft sidewall running them at normal ~30psi pressures. Probably not tires I'd wanna take to the road course or autocross but sticky tire for street something like NT555R, NT05R, R888R, NT01 is going to be your best bet I think. But having traction again in first gear is pretty sweet.

I have had good luck with nitto nt05r and mickey thompson et street ss, my preference is the ss but it depends on the power level... they will spin 1st but I can hook from 2nd and on with no spin and do rolls in 2nd from 50-60 with no issues... I have coilovers as well so those might be helping to some extent
I run Nitto NT05R's. I make 673 rwhp and hook fine at the track, although they will spin on the street. The Nittos have a little bit stiffer sidewall than the MT's. In fact, we used to use them as an autocross tire on the 94-96 impala ss's. Run them at 50 psi and they make a great autocross tire.

You autocross an Impala? Isn't that the ultimate anti-Miata?

You would think. But they have a 52/48 weight bias, they handle pretty good. The autocross guys used to get invited to the BMW club's autocrosses because they were a pretty good match for the 5 series.
When I was a young private in the US Army a specialist told me "the key to hooking up is treat a lady like a wh&re and a wh@re like a lady". Dare I say it's held up over time......
Wait, sorry I only read the title of the thread. My bad ......
