I know c7 wheels bend, but I never seen c5 wheels just crack like this.
Everything was fine until last night, my tire pressure indicator light says rear right tire low.
i put air, 20 miles later it asked again.
i thought I have slow leak flat,
but it appears to be cracked wheel.
I didn’t hit any pot hole, nice super smooth drive.
no bent on the wheel, just crack 🤷♂️
Unfortunately that is a known issue with C5 rear wheels. Had one fail on me years ago.
Gary
hey Gary
is this only common on the back wheels ? Or all 4?
i just received my forgestar F14 wheels, but my stock wheels tires are brand new and I just got them powder coated, I was hoping to drive with stock wheel tire combo for a while 🤦♂️
I lost 2 wheels like that, just driving around. After the 2nd one I switched to a set of C6 Z06 wheels for about 4 years and am now switching to C5Z06 wheels because of the cost of the rubber for the C6 variety. I have another friend with a C5 that had the same issue. Pretty sure it is not uncommon. Fortunately in my case it never stranded me. Was a slow leak. It was absolutely maddening however.
Both times it happened to me, a year apart, it was driver side rear.

yes C7 wheels mostly bend but this C5 wheel cracked on the thickest part of the wheel.
C5Z wheels don't have a problem with cracking or bending but the 2000-2004 thin five spoke wheels have had an issue with cracking. I've seen that problem on quite a few of them.
Is there another aftermarket wheel for sale that I can buy and use my stock tire with ?
at this point it doesn’t make sense to go buy another 1 factory OEM wheel and get it powder coated, because it may crack again.
it kids funny how ppl make fun of china made wheels, yet the original wheels are actually worst.
Another factor here could be the powder coating. If it was done at too high of a temperature, it could have been a factor. Still sucks to see either way.
If you just bought the tires and want to run them, get some cheap scrub C5 wagon wheels - I just picked up a set for $100 the other day that were in perfect shape.
If he got another rim, do all the C5 lug patterns match?
How about the rim fitting on either front or rear and clearance with the caliper?
I realize they are different (17-18), but if another rim cracked on the road out of town and he needed to change a tire to get back, could he get just one tire/rim that would fit front and back?
Based on this information, I may get a spare to take when I go out of town because my 1999 has the magnesium rims.
Thanks for posting this for us to read.

No, you can't get a spare that will fit both. The tires are different diameters anyway. Best thing you can do for road trips is a cell phone and active AAA membership. Cracked wheels are not the norm.
I bought my 2000 it had a cracked rear rim that had been patched up by the owner I bought it from from. I was cleaning the rims you could only see the patch job from the rear of the rim. The previous really used a lot of stuff to keep the rim from leaking and did not tell me about it. I bought a rim to replace it and also bought another rear rim for a spare just in case I ended up with another cracked rim.

Was the cracked rim the aluminum or magnesium type?
