AC was blowing hot air yesterday so when I got home I discovered that the AC compressor belt had come off. I did not break and was just hanging around the big pulley. I can't believe it did not get into the other drive belt and either break it or flip it off which would have left me stranded. I do not see any problems with the compressor or the idler pulley or the tension pulley. They all spin freely and do not see any wobble in any of them. Is it possible that the belt streched? I am going to put it back on today without taking off the main drive belt and see what happens. Any ideas as what I need to check.
I would take a closer look at the idler and tensioner for it, and take a look at your harmoinc balancer while the car is running. It might be starting to separate which threw the belt. Fairly common issue on these cars at this point.
The balancers on these cars are two pieces with rubber sandwiched between them. If your belt squeals, or you start throwing the belts, it's a quick visual check. If it's failing, you will see the pulley wobbling.
That looked OK I asked my neighbor what that was. Got the new belt on the AC and the other belt back on and everything looks fine. I do hear a clunking type noise coming out of the compressor when I turn the AC on, the noise goes away when I turn it off.. Maybe time for a new compressor luckily I happen to have one so the price to have it installed might not be to bad,

Is the clunking brief? If so, that can be normal as mine do it.
I had the same thing happen to me on my 2000 C5. The A/C belt came off but didn't affect the drive belt. It turns out that, according to my mechanic, some goofball had installed a Volkswagen belt.

Replaced the tension pulley assembly and put on a new belt. Do not see any wobble in the big pulley and both belts appear to be tracking true. I do have a very bas clunking sound thought it was the tension pulley but I guess it was not. As soon as I turn on the AC a loud thump or clunk cones from the compressor near as I can tell. Put your ear down by the passenger front tire it is really loud. Ac still works but I would not be able to drive with the air on and sitting at a traffic light. People would get a bad idea about Corvettes making such a noise. I kave a new compressor so its time to swap it out and see what happens.
