Barely staring off getting any sort of upgrades on my 03 Z. Figure I’ll start simply with an aftermarket intake. Seen a few different brands, mostly K&N, Airraid and aFe for the large single filter units. Also found Volant and Holley with two smaller filters. Just curious as to which would be more efficient or just more worth the money. I know intakes aren’t going to give me a whole lot, just want to get the most for what I pay for. All help is appreciated!
There are two types of aftermarket air cleaners, ones that use engine bay heated air and ones that use outside ambient air. In the early days of the C5 almost all the Corvette engineers who raced used the Blackwing, because it was the best filter at the time. Eventually they all went to a true cold (ambient) air system on their race cars. For the aftermarket air filter cleaners some make more sound than others but they are essentially an air cleaner. The only ones the programmers and engineers that I talked to said to avoid is the dual cone filters because of the turbulence it caused for the air entering the MAF.
I just broke my OEM clips. previous owner had a K/N filter element ... with the OEM container/tube. while cheaper to get another set of clips from ebay ... meh ... let's just amp it up a bit.
So ... It's time to upgrade. I read through several threads ... went to a few vendors ... and decided the AFE Stage 2 was for me. "
AFE Power 54-10052 - aFe Magnum Force Stage 2 Pro 5R Air Intake Systems"
I had their product on a 2000 F350 7.3 and really liked it. I'm back in the oiler group! LOL.
bought an extra filter so no down time waiting on the filter to dry after cleaning. Besides, the dry element filter is the same price. A cleaning kit and an extra filter ... we are even after the first filter change (clean)
