Hub Stands

There's always the possibility, no matter how slight, that in an emergency, you'd want to get the car out of the garage...NOW. With your car supported by those stands, you can't. I can see, though, how they could be helpful when you're doing some sort of quick maintenance job.
This brings up the question of what I do, during the winter, to preserve my tires from the cold. I'm the original owner of my C-5, and when the car was about 2 years old, I unfortunately ran over a piece of debris that put a severe cut in the LR tire, right where the sidewall and tread met. The tire still held air, but damage at that point on a tire, makes it unusable. I replaced the one tire, but over time, the OE tires wore at a quicker rate, with the RR wearing more quickly than the LR, and the difference in OD became more pronounced, and the limited slip clutch pack was VERY unhappy.
Since I was thinking of a set of custom wheels, anyway, I bought 4 wheels and 4 tires at that time. I kept the OE wheels, with those tires on them, and use them to store the car on, during the winter.

It's new to me that one should not let summer tires get cold. All I ever heard was just not to drive with summer tires in the winter. Lucky for me, the garage where I keep my C5s is heated. I set the heaters to 45 degrees but not for the tires, but for everything else I have stored out there (like paint, etc)
