I'd be more curious to see what this would look like in person. In theory, it sounds bad. In those renders above, it doesn't look too bad. I could never do it because of the dust, but more power to you if you do.
Excuse the messy/cluttered up garage... here is my torch red FRC on pearly white Z06 reps. I like the white wheels alot. I'm refinishing my CCW Classics for when I put my flared rear fenders on the car and they are going to have white lips and hardware...should be interesting.
Not sure how I stumbled upon this thread, but I LOVE my white on yellow combo now that I actually did it.
These are just plastidip. Six coats of white and three coats of glossifier per wheel (four cans white, two cans gloss). I clean them once a week. Super Clean (undiluted) works really really well and gets them looking back to new with a quick spray and rinse from the pressure washer. I wash them once a week and follow up with a waterless wash for the car. I daily drive these with some dusty pads (PBR Street-Road-Track) and it's not too bad to do.
Plan is to buy a set of the Spec Corvette SC5Rs and powder coat them. I get comments on it all the time, and it's about 50/50 love and hate. Seems like from my small sample size, older guys hate it and younger guys love it. My wife likes it, too, which is funny because we disagree on a LOT of things in this area. haha
Done right they can look unique...otherwise resemble a bmx motomag.
j/k
If you want black wheels stop cleaning them eventually youll get the look for free.
I had an '88 35th Anniversary car. The dealer put tire shine stuff on it when they detailed it and it took me about a month to get that stuff off of the wheels. Other than that they weren't any different than any other wheel to maintain. They looked pretty good on that car and like everyone says....put on what pleases you. I drive a Corvette for the smile it puts on my face and could give a care what anyone thinks. Ken
IF my pockets were much deeper I would love to have a custom set of "bears" made with 2" or 2 1/2" lips for the front and 4" lips on the back to run on my wide body hardtop.
