03 C5 base engine with 6 speed. What does it mean when right after starting, the DIC shows a "Remove key and wait 10 seconds" message and the steering column locks? Followed instructions and everything worked OK after that.
It means your manual Corvette suffers from a very common defect. Depending on your car's recall history, this can be anything from a minor annoyance to a serious safety concern. My car, also a manual, bought 3 years ago was throwing this error message from the first day I bought it. Amazing that previous owners drove the car 97,000 miles and never did anything about it. Thanks to this forum I was able to solve the issue; so I pay it forward. You should take care of this right away.
LMC5 module from Compliance Parts is the answer. It worked for me and I believe it to be the most effective solution. Takes a bit of DIY- but if I can do it, almost anyone can!

Thanks! I called the GM recall line (800 630-2438) and they were able to look up the car's recall history. The ignition lock recall was done on my 03 C5 in 2004. Since this is the first time it happened and it cleared on it's own, it seems likely that the 4 year old Delco battery is probably the culprit so it will get replaced manana. Other stuff cropped up with it (TPMS losing readings and being difficult to reset and heater airflow difficulties) and seem to clear after an overnight charging. Also has a master cylinder booster vacuum leak as it keeps drinking brake fluid.....I have an appointment for that.

Get the LMC5. None of the GM recalls fixed the issue.

The error messages and other issues you describe are indeed symptomatic of a low or failing battery, but if you are getting the pull key error message (or other column lock errors) you are rolling the dice. The GM recalls did not solve the issue. In my car's case, its service history also showed the recall performed, but I think the only thing the recall did was to re-flash the computer and implement the 2 mph shut off. That was simply a "band aide" approach to keep the driver from getting killed or killing someone in the event the locks deployed while the car in motion. .
Does the LMC5 remove the locking ability of the steering column? My car never had the locked column problem. While it was in a shop having some other work done, someone apparently bypassed the lock somehow. Because now it doesn't lock. I got no itemized bill on the work at all. They also cracked my radio bezel. Since I did NOT notice the cracked bezel, or the inability of the column to lock, once I left the shop, I can prove nothing. They will do nothing, either. So I'm no longer communicating with anyone there. Is the LMC5 the reason my column doesn't lock? Thanks guys....
Can't go wrong with LMC5/Compliance. It'll take care of the problem and if you have any trouble with install a phone call to their shop will get you an assist ASAP. Terrific customer service, the kind you would like to see with all vendors and merchandisers.

Without speaking to the shop or having an invoice for the work they did, it is hard to know what the shop did to your car or if the column lock was correctly disabled. If one follows the directions on the LMC5 installation, one will end up disabling the column lock. Here is a photo I took after installing the LMC5. I put some yellow cross hairs directing you to the device. If your car has had this installed the LMC5 might not be in this exact location, but it should be close. You will need to pull the carpet back on the passenger side footwell to look at your body control module (BCM). The LMC5 device is wired into the BCM. Hopefully this helps.
Lastly, you should be aware that there are/were other devices out there to address this problem, I suspect none accomplished this mission as easily or as effectively as the LMC5. See for example this one, "Dr. Don's":

Thank you for making the extra effort. Am I correct in assuming that if the LMC5 is installed correctly,, I could remove it, and carry it in one of the rear compartments in my 2000 Vert? My column NEVER had any issues before. I'd like to have all the VATS working. If there were no problems before, there shouldn't be now. My car is an A4. Wasnt this a bigger issue for the M6 cars?
