Radar Detector Mount
What radar detector mount are you guys using? The suction cup mount just isn’t cutting it anymore. I was told that the mirror mount in the Ecklers catalog does not work with the electrochromic mirrors. My car has the e.c. mirrors and I do not want to glue anything to my windshield. I would like to mount the unit either right below the mirror or right next to it.
I do not have a V1 so I am not looking for a V1 specific product.
I purchased one from Ecklers. When it came, I realized that it wouldn't work because in '02 GM removed a nut that used to be in the slot in the mirror bracket that the Eckler's unit was to bolt up to. So, I purchased the updated one from Ecklers that does not utilize the bolt/nut, rather it glues up into that slot in the back of the mirror bracket. So you do have to do some glueing, but not on the windshield.
I'll have to check my invoice at home for the part number. My digital camera is ther also. I'll take some pix and e-mail if you give me your e-mail address.

Ecklers lists 2 detector mounts for a C5. They are:

and

I am starting to think that you got the second one. If you do take pix I would really like to see what it looks like where you glued to the stock mirror bracket. In your opinion does it look good where you glued it, or does it look like a cheap add-on part?

Just curious why the cup mount isn't working out for you? I use a 8500 on my '03 Z06 and the OE suction cups from Escort. Works for me. I have the 8500 up high right under the e/m rear view mirror.

It falls off every once in a while while the car is parked in my garage. When it falls off it bounces off the dash and ends up on the passenger floor. I am lucky that it still works.

Ed Duprey at http://www.greatlakestrophies.com sells mirror mounts for reg and electrochromatic mirrors.. I got a visor mount but I dont think he sells them anymore...here is a pic
Consider this, replace your suction cups & clean the attachment area of the glass with alcohol. I drive like a mad man cornering and my V1 stays up there great. Sits even with and just to the left of the rear view mirror. Cups and glass will need cleaning with alcohol periodically. Also if you want to clear your field of vision of cords, there is a 12-volt wire [brown] that runs to the mirror. I hardwired a 6 or so inch cord that allows regular position referred above or I can set it lower for when the sun visor is in use. It’s a whole new view and it’s great; I can leave the ashtray closed to boot.

I've had awfully good luck with the suction cups on my V1. I stuck it on the windshield the day I got it .. about 9 months ago .. and it's never fallen off. When they work, it's a perfect solution ... temporary, movable, no drilling or gluing, etc.
I've had zero problems with the suction mounts on my V1......3 years of continuous use. Having said that, I occasionally had problems with Escort suction cups, and it is irritating to have the thing come swinging down and scare the beejeebers out of you when it does decide to let go!
Realizing that you're not an idiot when it comes to things like this.......maybe you wanna try the alky clean-up trick? I'm surprised you're having problems. Maybe a new set of cups? I think I have two sets of spares. Want one set?
Ooops.......never mind.....I just reread your post......you don't have a V1. Neverrrrr miiiiind........ :D

Re: Radar Detector Mount (Tracy)
Thanks for the offer. :)
I do not use a V1 so I am not sure that your cups will fit. I will try to clean up mine with alcohol. Funny thing is my detector is lighter than a V1 so if all these V1s are staying up mine should stay up as well. How long has yours been 'stuck' up there without falling?
It hung for 2 years in my FRC, and 4 months so far in my 03. Heat, cold, bouncing, etc. And this really surprised me, since I did have problems with my Escort mount, especially when it sat in the sun.
