Why have the value of the C5's dropped so significantly and does anyone have input on when/ if they will go up?
Thank you.
Dropped? Most are going for more than KBB. On top of that it's a 20+ year old platform that they made 30-40k a year of. Is there something specific you were referring to?
They made a ton of C5's and they are not collectable. Value is based on supply and demand. When there are more sellers than buyers the price drops. In some areas up north the price fluctuates with the season. Don't buy one as an investment and hope the price will go up because you will be disappointed. Buy one because it performs well for a 20+ year old design and can be fun to drive (or mod if you are so inclined)

It's an old car that some parts are hard to find, the days of the average Corvette being collectable is gone I think. If you cant keep them running due to GM discontinuing parts - mostly electronics - who wants them? And this coming from a 98 owner. And I like mine but don't expect it to ever be desired.
It wasn't that long ago a guy came up to me in a parking lot and offered me more than I thought my '03 is worth. And I don't even have it for sale. So maybe area of the country could have something to do with it. By the way, I said no thanks since I have too much fun driving it.
Had my ragtop in the drive the other day and a guy stops. Turns out he heads up the local South Florida 'vette club. Asked me if I wanted to sell the car or to let him know if I change my mind.
IIRC, C5's hit the market at $39,900. I paid low $40's for my (then) fully loaded MN6 '98 coupe in 1997- verts were not in production at the time. So, if I got $10k for it today, I am down about $33k (+/-). Over 23 years, that's $1,500/year depreciation in round terms. Not a bad annual "fun tax".
Some thank their ride is worth gold. As soon as you drive your ride off the lot in most cases money is lost. That's the american way. Time of season, area,buyer/seller market, car condition all play a major role.
I personally bought my 98 c5 140k this past May for $9,900 . One friend said I paid to much others said I got a steal. Before purchasing my car I looked at 3 others that were dogs for 5-7k.
Just sayn

I purchased my 02 z06 for 20k about 7 years ago. It had 62k now it has about 78k. The market for these just seems a bit stagnant but I think you guys explained it well (c5's do seem to be a dime a dozen). I think about selling it because I now have daughter and just bought a house. I just fear if I sell it now, the market will go up like crazy in a few years.
You know at this point I really don't care one bit what my car is worth. When I drop the top and take it out after a wash and wax I feel like it's worth a million. And I feel like a million too.
Got my shades on and the wind thru my hair (what's left up there)... And I always receive compliments on my pristine '98...
Happy Christmas to all my fellow Corvette Club members...
I have to say prices in my meck of the woods are a little higher these last few momths and they are selling. Ive sold 3 c5’s since Aug and more interest too. Dont really understand that with the holidays being close and honestly our country being a circus right now. Ive found amazing deals and ive seen alot of overpriced crap which is normal but i will say cars that were 9-10k a year ago in my area are now fetching 11-13k with more miles.
I did however score a nice 03 Z06 with 79k miles in mear mint condition for a jaw droppin price and im 2nd owner. Waited, searched daily and held out for that deal.....i do the same with selling. I wait till i find that right buyer who pays what i want cause i know im reasonable or fair and it helps not bein in a pinch
