Default Model year question

Hi all, I have started my search, and was wondering if the 1997 to 2000 issues; ECBM; steering sensor; cheaper key fobs... bleed over into the 2001 and up model years. I have my eye on a low production number (1G1YY32G715130684) 2001 convertible, and was just curious.

Thanks!

No, they do not. The '01 was basically the mid-cycle refresh.

I thought the 2001 - 2004 fobs were cheaper.

Many advantages in the '01 and up. The TPMS are also much cheaper. Most also have Z06/LS6 blocks, and all have the LS6 intake. I own a 2000 model, so it pains me to have to admit this. But the Forum is here to help each other, and I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say so. I've owned my car for almost 18 years, and when I bought it, many of these things were not yet known. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks for the replies, I knew the '01 and up models are more desirable, just wanted some verification that the updated components were for the entire model year, and did not happen at some point during the 2001 model year production.

The ‘01-04 cars can still have the ECBM problem but unlike the ‘97-00, it can usually be repaired if it shows a specific trouble code. Do a search for ECBM issues.

You might also want to search for EBCM issues. :-) EBCM = electronic brake control module, but it's commonly mistyped, so you'll probably find results by searching either way.

My 02 had the EBCM problem but my 99s (knock on wood) have no EBCM problems

Yep, I know about them as well. I have been doing research for almost 2 years now. My wife says I need another hobby! Somehow she thinks my addiction is going to end when I get one... LOL

The addiction is just starting. It gets much worse after you get one! You might want to give her a heads up on that, but wait until after you get the car home.

nope-- 2001 had +5hp, +10 lb-ft over the '00. (350hp vs. 345hp, 360 lb-ft vs. 350 lb-ft)
