Default radar detector recomondation?

I've been out of this for awhile, any recommendations?
Thinking of something that can be hidden, yet portable, and interface with my phone to give warnings (so I don't have to have it clipped onto the sun visor).

Waze and a quality detector is the way to go. Never trust Waze alone especially at night. I have been the one to mark the cop many times after getting warned by my V1.

Waze on your phone followed by the Uniden R3 or R7. I had an R3 which was great, R7 has indicator arrows to let you know where it’s picking up the signal. It’s awesome!

Couple that with a Blendmount for your rear view mirror and a power tap cord for the rear view harness, you are good to go!

wayz is great, and I use it all the time, but doesn't work where there's low population density (i.e., not a ton of people to report speed traps)

exactly. if you're at night, in small towns, remote roads, wayz is not really going to help much.
Works great in metropolitan areas.

so, valetine and uniden?
Any other suggestions?

anyone use k40? I have one now (been disconnected for years, going to trouble shoot it this weekend) , but it's over a decade old, I'm sure it's outdated. I like that they're completely hidden, are they worth the $$?

I'm a huge fan of the Excort Max 360. Directional arrows, decent app interface, allows you to mark police and other users on the app can see it and vice versa.
It's saved my butt many a time. Using a blend mount and a mirror attachment it's up and out of the way.

For what it’s worth I used Escorts for 20 years. Switched to the Uniden R3 when it came out as they surpassed escort. Upgraded to the R7 for the arrows. Got rid of the R7 for the V1 Gen2 because the R7 wasn’t quite loud enough with the top off my car. The Valentine has R7 range and isn’t as sensitive to BSM. The bonus is there are a couple apps that allow you to get notifications through the phone and car speakers.

Damn, radar detectors sure are expensive these days. I know I should upgrade my V1s but, damn, that's expensive too.

Much cheaper than insurance after a ticket or two. The R3 is the best detector for the money. Can be found for under $300 new.

Thanks, I agree--- I recently got a ticket in a speed trap (55 mph zone dropped to a 35 mph zone, officer was sitting about 50 feet past the 35mph sign). The ticket costs $400. I hired a local lawyer for $300 to work on it with me. IT was in the middle of nowhere, so wayz was useless.

Anywy, Appreciate the advice on r3, any advice on remote detectors? I'm looking for one with sensors mounted out front and back, and a tiny hidden screen, or even just LEDs like the k40.
Only two I've really found are the k40 and the beltronics STIr+

The remote mounted detectors are to expensive and not worth the value IMO. You may want to look at the V1 Gen2 then. You can mount it high on the windshield or low out of the way and put it in dark mode. There is a remote display that you can put in your view on the dash where you like. It’s a slick setup.

Thanks, not so much worried about the money (though the k40 is a bit much), I just want them out of sight. I've heard from many police officers that if they see a detector in someone's car they pull over, they are more inclined to give a full ticket (as opposed to giving a warning, or cutting back on how much you were over the limit). Also don't want to deal with the hassle of turning it off and taking it down when driving through states where they're illegal.

The beltronics looks pretty sweet, I'm assuming though that adding in laser diffuser is worthless?

The hidden systems I've seen in the past are in the thousands of dollars and not much better if any at all. They aren't illegal except in Virginia I think, and cops don't care if you have one.
And guess what, I never got a ticket with one when it was turned on, so your point about cops not liking them should be almost moot.

You will want to have to have the detector up high on your visor or windshield. the higher you can mount it, the more likely you are to pick up more distant signals.
Mine is hard wired and mounted in the tint band at the top of the windshield with Gorilla tape on non-suction cup type mount, no one can see it at all.
I never leave home without it and it has saved my bacon many times

Thanks. I get that the remote ones are no better than the portable ones, but still stuck on on having it hidden. I'll take a look at the recommendations, but I'm definitely leaning towards the k40 or belltronics (unless anyone has any suggestions on other hidden/remote detectors).
I'm assuming getting an optional laser diffuser is pointless? do they actually work?
