Question: Can SE headers be connected to factory cats with fabrication?
My 01 C5Z (pup cats and cats) will have a Corsa extreme cat back installed soon... ie a Corsa X pipe attached behind primary cats.
-> JBA also makes affordable LTs that include connection pipes. Not sure they still sell them (ie part# 6818S) which includes connection pipes.
Open to ideas on best way to connect SE headers to section of oem h pipe that has factory cats. I have seen early LPE long tubes connected to factory cats the same way (ie flanges welded ahead of factory cats and mated to flanged headers). Seems there are options out there to buy flange kits to make this all work between oem cats and long tubes such as Speed Engineering.
When I took my stock manifolds out of my car at a measly 29k miles the right cat had already failed. Broke apart and cocked sideways in the case. I've read from others that the stock cats are not that great especially by todays standards. I would recommend even a budget high flow cat over the stock units. They can be had for less than 100 bucks a piece.
That being said, the Speed Engineering headers are short enough that I don't see why you couldn't have someone fab collector extensions to meet up with the factory cats.
