Default BTR stage 3 cam kit

Hey guys, so I just recently got the BTR stage 3 cam kit for my Automatic 1997 c5 corvette. The kit includes the stage 3 cam, platinum dual spring kit steel retainer, 7.4 push rods and I got both the tools. I know I need the harmonic dampener so I found one on summit racing called ati super damper. I know I also need lifters as well and I needed help getting the right ones for this cam. I also plan on getting headers because I heard they go along great with the cam, what headers do you guys recommend I get to go along with the cam. As of now it’s stock all I have is a k&N air intake on it. I would really appreciate the help on what else I should get! Thank you guys! Oh and for any tuners out there what gains should I expect from these upgrades.

Did you check to see if you will require a stall for that stg3 cam? Probably will need one beforeheaderes unless you can swing both...

How does it behave on the street? Was your tuner able to get rid of the potential surging or bucking issues that tend to come with bigger cams?

It's a beast!!! (compared to stock)
Sitting at a stop light it will rock a little then settle down and then rock again (which is awesome)
the surge and buck is what the stall is for
I have to keep my foot on the brake but it don't buck

I'll second the Kooks and Yank 3,200 stall, as I have both. As for lifters, it sounds like you have the motor together already. If not, I'd recommend new trays. As for lifters, depending on mileage, I'd have no problem running the original lifters. The LS7 lifters offer no advantages over any other GM lifters. I used, and still use them, in my built LS7. I did break one a few years ago with an accidental overrev. Curious about the cam specs.......

You WILL need a stall for the stage 3 cam.

Wondering if that cam would be optimal in a Z06.

+1 on the higher stall converter. You may also want to consider upgrading your heads and intake before headers. Heads, cam, and intake is sort of the C5 holy trinity. Personally, I went with an A&A supercharger instead, but it all depends on what you're looking for. You're also gonna want a tune. If you do go with headers, I recommend Kooks w/catted x-pipe. Good luck with your build. Also keep in mind that once you start to approach 500 WHP (the cam alone won't get you there), you'll be on the bleeding edge of what your stock transmission can handle. You'll want to do more than upgrade your torque converter at that point.

I agree, but would also add that as the OP approaches 500whp NA, streetability will rapidly decline the closer he gets, if that matters to him......

This is true. That's one of the big reasons I chose the A&A kit over H/C/I.

You have accidentally opened a thread that is nearing two years old, and the original poster has not been active in over a year.

As far as where to order the BTR cam and kit, you can order different Forum vendors including Scoggins Dickey, TPS Motorsports, Summit, and undoubtedly several others, as well as directly from Brian Tooley Racing.

Not sure if you have an auto or manual trans, but if you are running an auto (A4), you will need to seriously consider a performance oriented torque converter in probably at least the 2600-3200 rpm range. The people at BTR can advise you best on that. Other factors will come in to play including your driving intentions (street only, street and strip, drag strip only, auto cross, etc); along with other mods to the engine, your differential ratio (2.73, 3.15, etc).

You will also need a good tune once you complete your camshaft installation along with whatever other “goodies” you will be installing.

Best wishes with your plans!
