Mine is going on 6 years--like new as far as holding a charge--also stays on maintainer when not driving--i believe if you keep it charged up at all times its good for around 8 years if not longer
I just replaced my yeller top a few months ago after about 5 years or so with another red top. The yeller top wasn't completely dead yet but it was acting up. So it's not that old yet.....now on another note, I do have a red top in my 2001 Silverado and that one has been in there since 09/2006. Still going strong too. Can't complain about that one bit. I do put it on a tender once in a while as it gets driven less then the Vette does. I also put the tender on the Vette so I'm hoping that helps some to make it last longer.
I put one in my 68 Cougar. Used a Battery Tender. It lasted 18 months. Replaced under warranty. Replacement lasted 13 months. Went with a Walmart Special El-Cheapo brand. 3 years and going strong. I think Optima is living on a reputation they gained before they started manufacturing their batteries in Mexico.

Just replaced one, lasted under a year. I think one of the cells went bad because the voltage was jumping up and down. I had it on a tender if I knew I wasn’t going to drive it for a while, but otherwise not. Force it about once a week. I think I’ll be keeping it on full time now.

I have a couple and honestly I don't know the age of them. I'm guessing 3 years on my red 99 Corvette battery and 7 years on my Talon's battery (I have two batteries in it)
I really like the Yellow Tops and have them in my other three vehicles.
I use tenders on them when not in use. Red Tops do NOT liked to be drained all the way down but the Yellow Top can handle it.

After the "leaking battery scare", back in 2002, I changed out the OE battery in my '01 coupe, to a Red Top. I store the car during the winter, and although I don't leave a maintainer on the battery, I do put a charger on the battery every couple of weeks. To be honest, I generally don't trust any car battery beyond 4-5 years, so when that first red top got to that point, I took it out of the 'Vette, and put it in my Camaro.
I put another red top in the 'Vette, and 4-5 years later, out it went, and into the Camaro. I gave the original red top to a friend, and he used it in his boat for a couple of years. So, the first one lasted about 7-8 years, if not a little longer. I later sold the Camaro, and the red top that was in it at the time, went with it, so I don't know whatever happened to it. The red top that's in the C-5 at this point, is about 4-5 years old.....
