I have a 2001 coupe with 43k miles and I’m still running the original Goodyear tires, Needless to say, time to change.
I’ve been looking at Generals GMAX AS-05 and GMAX AS along with BFG’s G Force Comp 2 A/S
and G Force Sport Comp 2.
Appreciate your thoughts. Car is driven around 5k a year these days, so don’t want to drop a ton of money on them.
After replacing the factory Goodyear EMT tires, I went with a couple sets of Nitto NT-555 which were good summer tires (great wet and dry performance) and I recently went with a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports which are even better tires. Lots of folks on here have run the Continental Extreme and the Firestone Indy tires with much success. I think my next set will be the BFG Comp Sport 2 summer tires as they have a very nice price and good reviews. No need for all season in South FLA
Over the years I have had Goodyear EMT's, Eagle Sport, Eagle F1 and Supercars, Kumho Ecsta EMT's, Dunlop, Firestone, Nitto 555's, BFG G Force Sport Comp 2's and Michellin Pilot Sport ZP's. I liked them all but the Nittos were my favorite with the BFG's at a close second. I will be in the market soon for both mine and my wife's and looking at Michellin PS ZP for her. I am going with non run flats again and leaning toward the Conti Extremes or possibly Coopers this time. I need good wet traction for the FL summer storms, they are short but the rain is heavy.

I also enjoy the Continental Extremes tires.Car is stock, except for shocks and sway bars. I replaced the tires with the same size. We tracked the car At Watkins Glen International spring of 2019 and was very pleased with them.
I actually just did the Firestone Indys myself, so I'm curious to see how they're going to do. I'm not super excited about them as I should be, but the reviews and Tire Rack testing has been quite positive, so I wanted to give them a whirl. The Continentals were extremely appealing as I had a set of the original ContiExtremeContacts on my STi for a bunch of years and they were unreal in every season, but the $200 additional didn't seem worth it for a car that I only drive 7/10s of in terms of absolute tire limits.
Do they still make Pilot Super Sports in base C5 sizing? The only Michelin tires I found available through Tire Rack or Discount Tire were the Runflats. I had PSS on my STi at the end and they were incredible, and they were CHEAP all things considered. One wheel literally balanced with a single weight on it. When they got warm, they got really sticky. I think I was under $700 on the car, but that was late 2015. I just paid $812 installed for the Indys and that seemed excessive, but I think the tire market has been influenced by pandemic related supply chain issues. I saw people posting about Indys as late as 2019 in which pricing was under $500 on the car after rebate. That being said, I'm either way down on power, or they're stick even in low 50s because on my 10 mile test drive loop I couldn't even get the slightest wheelspin. Seeing as I read stories about people who have their car nearly swap ends lightly accelerating from a stoplight, I'm either A. Down on power, B. Have really sticky tires or C. an expert driver. I know it's not C, it doesn't feel like A, so maybe B?

I run the BF Goodrich sport comp 2 summer, if you are not going to drive in freezing temp they are the best tire for the money-wet or dry. Just can't let them freeze. go with all seasons if you need to drive in the snow.
