Default Tire Size Question

Hi,

I have a 1999 C5 that I have had for a long time. Don't put many miles on it, but looks like it is about time to replace tires. I bought this from the original owner and have never changed the tires. The original owner changed the rims and put 18" on front and 19" on back. The tires he put on the front are 245-45-18 and the rear are 285-35-19.

My question is why would someone put different profile heights on the front/rear?

With the current size setup, I am not sure what size tires would be the best fit for the car. I would appreciate advice. I only drive it on the street and it is never raced or tracked. I don't want to put granny tires on it, but also don't need the highest performance sizing.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Mac

They come out of the factory this way, just on 17" and 18" rims.

A 245/45/18 is 26.7" tall and a 285/35/19 is 26.9". I agree that would look strange. Better would be a 245/40/18 @ 25.7" or a 255/40/18 @ 26" on the front, instead. Sidewall height, front to rear, would be almost identical.

The reason for the different aspect ratios, front to back, is:
- The wheel dia are not the same and the tires are staggered

I agree go with a 40 series for the front, you should be good to go

What's the width of the wheels ? You would assume it's near stock with 285/245, but just guessing without knowing

Thanks for the replies.

So the consensus is:

245_40_18 Front
285_35_19 Rear

??

I want to order today because the $70 rebate and 10% off deal from TireBuyer ends in a couple of days.

Best regards,

Mac

Those are the stock C6 tire sizes, 245/40-18 and 285/35-19, yes.

How wide are your wheels, though?
