I want to switch to the lightwright see through top for the summer. I may try to sand it down at a later date because the origin finish is coming up in one area. For now, I am considering wrapping the top.
Are there any vinyl blacks which come close to factory black paint shade?
I wrapped my top in black before something decided to smack into it and crack it and got it replaced. I sanded it and wrapped it. Looked great. Installer used this, which was also black on the underside and gave the top a pretty neat glossy look from the cabin, too:
Very cool, Stingroo. That is inspiring to see and exactly what I was hoping is out there. That may very well be the way I'll go. I'm still under eh car right now trying to rewire a burned harness side connector for the passenger O2.... Never... NEVER let someone else work on your car even when it is a convenience when you're tapped out with work. That's all I have to say about that other than tightening loose bolts and rerouting wiring to be safe and effective.
Just a thought - if you have any carbon fiber on the car, consider wrapping the top in 3M carbon fiber wrap. It would look good IMO.
That might be a good combo. This car used to have the cf underhood panels but they have transitioned over to the Z06 now. But I do have a personal aversion to faux cf. It's sort of like going to sit in a leather chair but finding out it's just thin vinyl to me. I had those custom flag inserts made and the guy said he'd use real cf but they are just 3M fake cf. I'll install them for now and replace later when I can get the real thing sourced.
There's no wrap on the inside. That vinyl is glossy all the way through instead of a white/gray background like on most. He picked it for that reason. I was worried about that, but once he peeled it away I was pretty shocked.

That's exactly what I did. Besides the roof, I wrapped the mirrors, added a couple hash marks, wrapped the bottom of the rear bumper, and added carbon fiber look lettering.
@Stingroo here's a question... If you sanded the top of the panel and then installed just the one sheet on the outside, don't you see the scuff appearance from the sanding when you look up?

Thanks for posting this. How much did the installer charge? You can PM me if you don't want to post it here.
I have two clear tops for my black 99 that are far from perfect.

Charged me a hundred bucks, which was more than fair because I already had ruined the sheet of vinyl I bought from Amazon attempting it myself, so I called it a day and called a pro. lol
Be careful wrapping the lexan top. The lexan outgases and has caused bubbles/issues for people in the past. I wanted to have my lexan targa top skinned in real carbon fiber, but after the installer did his own and had it turn to crap after a pretty short amount of time, we won't be doing my lexan one lol. Some people have had luck with wrapping theirs, it might be due to the "breathability" of newer vinyl wrap.
