AAA comes to the rescue. No spares. Or run flats.

having two different diameter tires ain't conducive to carrying a spare (otherwise, you'd need two)
the non-Z06 cars used run-flats, and the Z06 came with a flat repair kit... i personally have rolled with AAA

As crazy as this sounds, I carry a front and rear tire with me on very long trips. The front tire fits in the back but the rear tire is too wide so I have to put it in the passenger seat. And YES, I have AAA. However, I find my Hankook's typically need to be special ordered and I don't want to be stuck somewhere waiting for a tire to be shipped in. As even a further backup, I keep a small Harbor Freight Air compressor and a tire repair kit. Having been stuck once before was enough for me to want to do this...

+1 on AAA. I carry a tire inflator which will get you to a shop unless you have a total blowout.

Just put emergency road service on your insurance - cost is very minimal for a year’s worth of coverage.

Don't bet on AAA. Last time I needed them,, it took them 6 hours to show up. I was less than a half mile from their wrecker/towing service. AAA was the best at one time. Now, depending on where you live, they're bottom feeders. OP-Theres no spare. The only spare tire I carry now is around my waist. They came with 'run flat' tires from GM. Except the Z06, which came with its own mini compressor and tire repair kit. No jack, however.

You're a prime candidate for run flats! To each their own. Sometimes having a tire full of ambient air in the passenger seat beats a 5' 3" bag of hot air in same......OOOPS-NOT politically correct

I daily drive my car. I carry a tire plug kit and 12v air compressor. I have roadside assistance and towing through my auto insurance. I have a spare set of wheels and tires at home.

Check out Modernspare.com. Full size 26.5" spare. You shouldn't Auto X with it and definitely refrain from running a road course while it's installed but it will get you back home or to the tire shop if called upon.

How sensitive would the drivetrain be to using a spare tire of a different diameter?
I understand how much difference would affect the impact, but are we talking damage the drivetrain or cause some sensors to get confused?

I had a similar problem with AAA not only once, but twice. Worse, my dad's motor home broke down at a busy intersection (where 2 busy 2-lane roads meet) at rush hour and the situation became so bad, waiting for AAA, that the local police personally called a tow truck, which arrived quickly. Anybody who depends on AAA is in for a rude awakening and should be prepared to wait at least 4 hours.

I believe that different diameter ill be a problem on the rear axle, because it will cause damage duet the limited slip differential. As for the front end, maybe others on here can chime in about the possibility sensors getting confused.

Not sure if 1 to 2 inches diameter difference would cause excessive wear or damage to the Posi as long as it was a short distance and driven cautiously. I would say turn traction control/active handling "off" to prevent any speed sensor errors or codes.

At first glance, I tend to agree with you. Exploring the issue a little deeper...

I am no expert in these matters. But logic seems like 1 - there are many thousands of mustangs, challengers, etc sporting type cars out there with space saver spares issued by the factory that handle being driven on spares. I see many cars and trucks with larger aftermarket rims/tires using standard spares. Both my 82 and 91 have spares. Is the difference in drivetrains the reason the C5 does not have one or is just a space/weight issue?

2 - the diameter difference would cause different rotational speeds going straight, just like turning a curve with equal sized tires. Since the differential is designed to handle that difference in a curve, how would doing it going straight damage the drive? (Especially for less than 50 miles or so to a tire shop.)

Only trying to understand. I am also deciding which route would be best for my 99.
