Hi! I'm the second owner of this beautiful C5 that I've nicknamed Blue Demon When I bought it years ago, the hood was already installed. Could someone please help me figure out who made the carbon fiber hood? Is it MCM? Thanks!
This is a MCM hood and the center section is different from yours. That still doesn't mean it isn't a MCM hood as they made two types, regular model and a high rise model. The one shown is a regular model. Maybe yours is a high rise model (which is more rare). I believe they made 5000 regular models and only 500 of the high rise models.
Thanks! Where did you find out about how many hood were made? I'd love to learn more about the company / hood, but haven't had much luck yet finding any info online.

Either Larry said this or the previous owner of my red 99 told me. I do not know this for fact.
I do know this for fact, they are expensive. Some people ask $5,000 for a used one which is crazy IMO.
Thought it was funny we typed almost the same response at the same time. Take care Larry!
What are the odds that 2 people with MCM hoods would respond at the same time?

That wasn’t me Jay. Based on what E.T. and Kenny (Yello95) told me a few years back, there were approximately 1200 low rise and 600 high rise hoods built.
I was really hoping Marc at VetteNuts would be able to bring these back into production, but I guess it is just too time consuming and expensive to make any profit. What a shame!
Judging by the really bad fitment by the driver headlight lid, I'd personally be extremely surprised if that's an MCM hood. All I ever hear is about how a MCM hood fits even better than GM could have ever intended and how some people will only sell them for more than an entire C5. I'd check your rubber adjuster below that asap. I hope the adjuster can be dialed down, but that's pretty extreme.

Good eye! That is a very bad mismatch, for sure. Beautiful car, though.
Nice catch! That corner drives me crazy right now LOL The hood has been a perfect fit since it was installed many years ago when the Vette was new. Then a few months ago the corner started lifting. First thing I checked was the rubber adjuster below it, which wasn't the issue. Blue Demon is currently in the shop for an interior overhaul and to fix that proud corner.
The paintwork definitely isn't my cup of tea, BUT it appears to be VERY well done. Kudos to whoever did that work.
I'm normally not a fan of flames on any vehicle. When I first saw pictures of this Vette, I thought the paint was super obnoxious, but went to look at it in person anyway. I bought it that day. The paint in person has so much detail and depth of different shades. Some people mistake it for water until they get closer. It was painted by Craig Fraser from Air Syndicate and is published in one of his books.

Yessir my friend Larry...that is correct...1200 low rise and 600 high rise MCM hoods produced. And i got my info from Evil-Twin who is absolutely THE authority on insider info about the MCM hood....he was good friends with the owner of Motor City Mold hoods....btw, that is definitely an MCM S/C high rise hood that the op has in my opinion just looking at the underside of his hood...
Forgot to mention to C5-SIN that his paint job is FANTASTIC....

Another interesting piece of info from Stu for ya...
" The hoods that Evil-Twin posted are the earlier MCM hoods with the narrow bubble resembling the OEM hood lines. Mike of MCM however had worked on a Supercharger version and I received the first one off the line. The difference in in the low rise and the high rise (Supercharger) version was that he added a little more height in the nose and broadened the bubble so that it did not look like it rose up with the abrupt demarcation seen in so many other high rise hoods. It was even rather camouflaged by his ingenious design.
So if you are going make a comparison you can see yours again compared to the real thing. StuzVette was indeed the hood in their advertising. I took the pictures! You can really see the broad bubble here: (This may be the best way to prove from the look underneath along with the broad bubble design whether yours is original MCM) "

Evil-Twin :
"Let me tell you, There are no issues with rain.. you can wash your car.... get caught in a torrent of rain and there will be no problems.. if any rain or wash water gets to the scoop, it will fall between the front of the motor and the back of the radiator.. The was so much engineering designed into this hood... if you notice the C5R cars have the scoop in the exact same place. you will get more water in the engine bay from hitting a puddle than from rain water entering the scoop."

An authentic MCM hood is a top quality product. I had one on my ‘00 and it really transformed the look of the car. It does appear that the hood you have is an MCM one.

Very strange, I'm curious what causes something like that to happen. I'd be interested in that info if you ever ask the shop that's going to repair it

......nope......1200 low rise.....and 600 S/C high rise hoods... but the sweet thing about yours, Jay, is that Bill(ET) left his(now yours) carbon fiber underneath the hood stay raw carbon fiber and only coated it with Zaino Z16...most other people clear coated underneath...you lucky dog you...
