Default Touch Up Paint

I have a 2003 Convertible in Medium Spiral Gray Metallic. It currently has 38,000 miles and spent most of it’s life in a garage when not being driven. I got a rock chip in the lower rocker panel behind the drivers door. I went to the local Chevy dealer and ordered touch up paint. Gave the dealer the model year, color description and the VIN. Touch up paint came in recently and I applied to the rock chip. The color of the touch up paint isn’t even close to the color of the car. The color of the touch up paint looks like it is Cyber Gray which was used on the Corvette starting in 2009. I went on line and check 8 different sites to make sure I received the correct touch up paint. All the sites say it should be 88 WA 812K. That is the number on the application container I received from my local Chevy dealer. There is another number on the container which is 19367838.

I have ordered touch up paint from my local Chevy and Ford dealers in the past. The touch up paint always matched the color of the vehicle I needed to apply touch up paint to. Do you think it is possible that GM’s touch up paint supplier put the wrong color Gray into the touch up paint container I purchased?

No, I think they gave you the wrong color. Should match very very close especially GM touch up paint. Bring it back and get the right color. Good Luck!

I ordered touchup paint from the dealer and had the same issue. I also have a medium spiral grey. Its not even close to matching. I found a site called automotivetouchup.com. You can order different sizes of touchup paint from spray paint to larger sizes all the way down to just minor touchup bottles. I bought 2 different sizes and a touchup bottle. I am building little models of my C5. Tested the paint and its spot on perfect match. They even give you a spray card to test it. Dealership classified their paint into 1 group. This site even for medium spiral has 2 different paint groups. Little more expensive and takes a little longer to get due to they custom mix the paint and your not just buying a prepackaged touchup bottle.

I got my touch up paint from Dr. Color Chip. The match was perfect.

Thank you for the information. I went to automotive touch up.com. The site is recommending Medium Spiral Gray code 513F. Is this the same color code you received? Want to make sure so that I get the same color match that you received.

All depends on what the color code is on your RPO list. Mine was 812K. I just went into the site and looks as though 513F is the same as the 812K. So i would say you're good there.

Went back to their site and I can select from 4 color options.
513F
812K
WA513F
WA812K
Which one did you order and receive. All the other sites I visited show only 812K as the color for Medium Spiral Gray for 2003 and 2004 Corvettes.

Yes maybe but who wants to have a repaint for a small nick or chip? Choices are still limited even in the year 2021.

I checked the RPO sticker on the glove box door. The color listed is 812K. That’s what I will be ordering. Hopefully it matches the color of the car.

Good Luck it should with the right code. Make sure you use your vin# as they can tell everything from that set of #'s about your Corvette.
