Raced a C8 Today

The Fusion Sport has 25 less horse power and weighs quite a bit more than a C5. His 0-60 is 5.1 seconds whereas yours is 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. So, by the numbers, you should win. Granted, you have to shift perfect as the Ford's is a 6-speed automatic so all he has to do is floor it. On a roll race, you'd smoke him ever time (C5 more hp and less weight)
I'm simply not excited by Japanese cars. You mentioned Subaru.. My other car is a '19 Subaru WRX 6 speed that I negotiated for $25.5k. It was an unbeatable deal when I bought it new - and it checked all the boxes for being a safe compact sedan with AWD. Car & Driver's reference to it being the closest facsimile to a Porsche under 6 figures makes a lot of sense once you get behind the wheel - the car is a tiny terror.
Hats off to my Subaru, but I prefer low-revving American muscle. The C5 has kept many miles off the WRX - which is more entertaining than having an Elantra or Corolla parked in the driveway. Even though the WRX may be a modern day classic, the C5 "is" a classic - and I never get tired of seeing the hood twitch when I turn the key.

This actually validated my belief that my 47 Chevy with a Vette 327 small block and B&M Turbo 350 was a faster car. The old Chevy is in storage as it needs some TLC and is third in line for major work. It just seemed to me that it was more intimidating and quicker, but thought my memory and romanticizing my youth may have adjusted reality. The 47 was my first car and it took me five years to get it on the road, I bought in high school with the body off the frame with a couple six cylinder engines, etc.. in my early 20s I had taken it down to the strip a couple times and it was very low 13s with tall gearing and stock stall convertor. I never did take it down after I put a 3.23 9” Ford rear end and 3500 stall converter in it, but I digress…..35 years later I decided to see what my 97 C5 would do before I did any real mods to it, I had never taken a manual down the strip, main thing going through my head was not to get the red and leave too soon and then not to bounce off the rev limiter or miss a shift! LOL So even though my time wasn’t great for the first time in 35ish years driving a manual for the first time I can sleep at nights with my performance, eventually I will be able to look people in the eyes and hold my head up high, just not yet! LOL
All Kidding aside, prior to this weekend the coolest car thing I had done this year is drive a C8 around the block basically. Very cool, and a funny story for another time, but it was very cool once I figured out where door handles where, how to start and get it into gear, get used to a video monitor instead of a real mirror………….
Drive them like you stole them and enjoy whatever you are driving, a little sports car can be very rewarding if you are driving it near it’s limits……..

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
reminds me of the meem of the dude in his hotel room, for lights-out, he's calling the front desk
"I need a wake up call"
lady at front desk "your car is slow and you suck at racing"

That hurts almost as much as "Your car is SLOW and you SUCK at RACING!" LOLThat is one FAST CAT!
Really looks like a fun day. Corvette show and drag racing. Throw in a track and its perfect day
So our club used to rent out Yakima Speedway for the show/event (Vette-a-Bration) and you could do laps, but the track was sold and closed down so we are trying to do a big autocross at the fairgrounds parking lot, people are trying to make that happen for next year. It was a blast we cruised the have side by side, etc. as well.....
