Got an update today through one of the shops I've been talking to. The rears that I want should be available in a couple weeks. Here's hoping..
What size are you guys running in front with 315/30/18 in the rear? Guessing a 275/35r17 instead of the 275/40r17's you'd use with a 305/35 rear?
Those Nankangs don't look half bad.
Im down to wait for what I was originally looking for if they'll indeed be available in a couple weeks. But if a 315/30 and 275/35 work as well I'd definitely consider it. Pros? Cons?
Thanks btw guys.
As no one builds a 275/35/17 street tire, what size fronts did you decide on? Something to consider, a 275/40/17 is 25.7" tall and a 315/30/18 is 25.5" tall, so you have two things to think about.
(1) a C5's Active Handling/Traction Control isn't very sensitive but a taller front tire than the rear generally doesn't work very well. I would drop back to a 255/40/17 @ 25" tall.
(2) to keep the tire sidewall heights correct on a staggered wheel diameter combo (17/18, 18/19, 19/20) it's recommended to run close to a 1" taller rear tire to keep them the same or close.
A 275/40/17 front @ 25.7" tall and 305/35/18 rear @ 26.42" should work fine, if your wheels are wide enough.
Good call! They reissued the product name. There was another gent on then forum that stated he's used them for road courses. When I asked where he got them I didn't get a response. Makes more sense now that the road course tire is retired.
Looks like the 555R2 is now just sold as a drag radial. The NT01 appears to be thir only road course tire available now. Per the Nitto site anyway.
I was under the impression that the NT01 Nitto was a drag radial, and the NT05 was for the road course....

Both are basically roadrace/autocross tires. Difference is, the NT01 has a 100tw rating and the NT05 has a 200tw rating.
I've run both tires in the past and both suck in the cold or in the wet.
It's the other way around grinder. That last post links didn't work for me. Was considering throwing the nt01's on all four corners but felt like it would be a bit of a waste if what I really wanted popped up within a few weeks.
Try to buy Cummins diesel parts. You don’t know pain yet.
Maybe one day. Something about being in a big@$$ truck just feels good. Never really been into trucks but I borrow my brother-in-law's from time to time. I did have an 89 Cherokee once.. Really miss that thing.
