Went out to install an oil catch can today on my 03 Z06 and found quite a few toasted Cicadas sitting atop the heads under the rail covers. I live in Baltimore and the car sits outside in driveway under a cover. If you live in a spot where the Cicadas were off the hook like here, you might want to have a look. I don't know how/why they got up in there. I checked for wire damage thinking they might mistake a wire for a branch but all clear. Toasted cicadas passenger side Driver side
i live about 30 miles NE of Baltimore and after looking at your post, checked my engine for toasted Cicadas in the C5 that also sits outside. Found none. But I have the valve covers on and also installed a lower screen protecting stuff from getting into the radiator area. Agree, gross!
I see them in our airplanes at work. They get sucked into the intake of the A/C pack ducting and get stuck in the heat exchangers, from other areas of the country of course. Hard to clean out if there's a bunch of them in there. No signs of swarms in Arizona though, they know how hot it is here and stay away.
