What is it about those wheels which makes them suitable for the Corvette, is it mainly the center bore width and brake clearance? I notice that some other models are advertised as "Chevrolet compatible" despite a 120.00mm bolt pattern and larger bore requiring spacers. Example.

That wheel you linked to is under the Chevy SS page, which uses a 5x120 pattern. To answer the above question, the bolt pattern and center bore are a two main features that make them specific to the Corvette. We also beefed up the inner lip compared to some other EC-7 wheels and integrated a center cap design that supports late C6/C7 factory caps for that OEM+ look. Finally, the spoke and barrel design was optimized to clear Corvette brakes.

Got it, makes sense now. Didn't realise the SS was German-pattern.
Have ordered the Apex EC-7 in 18x10 with 275/35/18 Michelin PS4S. Issues with other wheels were:
Forgestar F14 - Sold out, wait time 12-14 weeks. May consider purchasing later as these are a 2+lb weight saving per wheel.
FlowOne F4: Didn't like the looks for only a 1lb weight saving.
TSW Nurburgring - Enquired but received no response from anybody.
Seems like there is an opening for a road oriented 18lb wheel in 18x9.5 for the 275/35/18 square setup for which is currently unfilled. I'd certainly be interested but demand may not be sufficient compared to track wheels.
Installed the new wheels and tires today. That's the 275/35/18 PS4S with Apex EC-7 18x10.
Enormous improvements in quickness of response, reduced steering weight, ability to modulate slip and feel the limit, total grip, ride, and NVH. Only downside seems to be that more gravel sticks to them and gets thrown up into the wheel wells.
Ran into an odd problems though, not sure if related. Initially got a warning that the TPMS was not reading (fine, as the sensors are not installed). About 20 minutes later the traction control and ABS lights lit up, along with messages "shocks inoperative", "service vehicle soon", "reduced power", "trac/act hndlg - off", "fuel low", fuel gauge pointing to zero even though the tank is full, and an annoying chime which kept repeating every thirty seconds or so.
Anyone have any thoughts? Could this be the dreaded (but possibly mythical) wheel diameter mismatch issue causing problems with the computer?

Glad you're enjoying the wheels but sorry to hear about the other problems. Was the car sitting for a while before you swapped the new setup on and drove around? Most of those codes/warnings sound like a low voltage situation.
Took it out for another drive today up in the mountains. The car's still on the old suspension setup but it's already a night and day difference compared to previous. It feels light and maneuverable, the front end just keeps on biting and I still haven't found the limits under cornering. Very impressive, the handling and feel is transformed. I highly recommend the square 275/35/18 setup with Michelin PS4S and Apex EC-7 wheels.
The electronics issues are almost certainly unrelated, will start another thread.
More driving. The PS4S tyres just stick like glue, it's incredible. The speeds achievable on long sweepers are so fast it's almost a case of chickening out before reaching the limit because the consequences of "falling off" would be so severe. Balance and response on tight low-speed corners is fantastic. Bump absorption even on poor roads is great, 35 profile was definitely the right choice compared to 40. These days 40 is a touring tyre!
Turned out to be completely unrelated to the wheels, I made thread for it here: link. In short it occurred twice and never came back (so far...), I think it might have been caused by water ingress somewhere, possibly at the base of the windscreen as the seal wasn't sitting properly and I gave it a big wash just beforehand.
