I was going to order a set of these seat covers. Basically towels with a hole in them and Corvette emblem. A bit pricey at almost $40 each but I figured, what the heck they'll protect the seats. Then I saw they want just under $18 for 3 to 7 business days shipping. Too much for fancy towels to cover my seats. I'm just going to take a couple nice towels I already have and cut a hole in the top of them. Okay, rant over!
If you can drive there and back to pick them up for less, go for it. Dont forget to add up what your time, fuel and lodging costs. Bet thats far more than $18.
Even the vendors that say "free shipping", probably the cost is built into the product price. The ability of finding what I want on line at a reasonable price is my focus, not the shipping cost.
JMHO.
Check out our "transactions" forum where you'll find numerous complaints about Eckler's shipping charges. They are excessive IMO and I don't order from them for that reason...

GM Parts direct is the worst....they charge shipping on every single part no such thing as combining the order, never ordered from them for that reason.
Eckler's in my opinion seems to have a flat fee setup in their system as opposed to actual shipping charges per order. I dunno I could be wrong their prices overall kept me from ordering. maybe they add the cost for the packing materials who knows. I'm not trying to bash anyone. Like everyone else I shop for the best deal. Sometimes calling and ordering gets that better deal. I just did this with Jeep parts, price online shipped was more than if I called and ordered. It was only $4 but hey....$4 is $4.
That being said, shipping is $$$$ which is why when I sell something I figure out my shipping costs up front and add it to the price. Do I occasionally lose some $$$, sure but I try and make it fair and make sure the person gets what they ordered, no half *** packing to save a few bucks
I paid $13.99 for shipping on a pair of them from Zip Corvette a year ago. I don’t know what it is now, but generally shipping costs have went up considerably since then due to fuel costs rising so sharply.
Shipping within the United States is foreign to me. What I mean by this is we get SCREWED here in the US by our own postal service. I can buy a phone cord on eBay and the location of the item is in China. Cost of cord, 99 cents with FREE SHIPPING. So a month later I get the cord in my mailbox that traveled all the way across the big ocean and then to the middle of the US, Iowa. Now if I take that same phone cord in the same box and ship it say just 50 miles, it will cost me about five bucks. How in the heck can China ship items throughout the US for pretty much free and we pay out through the nose to ship the same item just a few miles? No wonder China is taking over. Can someone explain this to me? I used to sell quite a few items on eBay but now their fees, PayPay fees, and shipping costs make it not worth while. Our country is so going down
Eckler's has really high prices overall. I've ordered a few things from them. I'll always order from Zip, before Eckler's as I can go pick it up myself to save on shipping.
An anecdote in Eckler's defense: I ordered something from them a few years ago. About four hours later, I realized I had forgotten to include another item. I called. The guy I talked to said that the second item couldn't be added because the order had already been processed. I thanked him for Eckler's efficiency but was a little disappointed that I would have to pay another shipping charge. . He said let me talk to my supervisor. He came back on the line and told me they would ship the second item free. That was nice of them I thought.
I can't count the times that I have left products in my shopping cart after finding out that the shipping charges are unreasonably high (particularly with auto parts). It sends me shopping elsewhere.
A pretty good clue that you are going to get charged a lot for shipping is when the vendor does not disclose the shipping prices up front (before you have to go through the checkout process). This is particularly obnoxious when the business is primarily one of online sales. Like the business is being asked to do something remarkable to ship the product to their online customers. Another common ploy is to offer free shipping for purchases over a certain amount (without regard to the number of items or weight of the items purchased). This is fairly good evidence that the business is price gouging customers on shipping.
I suspect that if more potential customers left items in the cart and did not complete their purchases at the point in time that the inflated shipping charges are revealed, the vendors might realize that their high shipping charges are costing them a lot of business. But for this to happen customers have to be willing to stand up against the practice and refuse to pay the inflated shipping costs.

This is very true. And it is very obnoxious. However I also found that when you do leave your item selected in the cart due to excessive shipping charges, sometimes I receive a follow up email asking "did you forget something"? and a slightly reduced price for either the item or shipping charge. Not frequently, but sometimes... Usually I just disregard the offer.
My overall experience with Ecklers hasn’t been great lately. I emailed them several times regarding shipping and other issues. The best that I have received back is simple corporate rhetoric. Nobody is twisting my arm to order from them; therefore, rather than waste my time and get frustrated - I just don’t order from them anymore. A simple solution!
They gotta pay overhead for people to ship, running a biz isnt cheap. Sux but thats reality
J.Abbot is with Ecklers I am pretty sure he posts in the C3 section a lot you can page him.
Whenever possible I use Amazon Prime to avoid shipping costs
Often it's built into the price, you can almost always find an identical listing for less, usually the amount of the cost of shipping. I've noticed this many times on Amazon.

Super simple answer....the Chinese government subsidizes the shipping. Literally filling planes and ships with Chinese goods to flood our market and destroy our USA based economy infrastructure. China can never beat us in a military war...but they are slowly taking over by destroying us from within. The formula is very economical....dump Chinese goods into our economy and make use hate and fight each other via social media misinformation. Who needs military might when you can just herd the sheep off a cliff.
I buy everything USA even though it cost more than a similar item coming from China. I do the same with USA goods that are sold by Amazon and E-Bay. I will get the manufactures name from those web sites, go to the manufacture's web site and from them get a retail store that sells the same item. The 2 worse (IMHO) stores that sell the Chinese crap are Home Depot and Loews.
