Default Coolit V2 &V3

I was wondering if anyone has used this product from SacCity Corvette to tune their radiator fan. I am looking to be able to remotely turn my high fan on when I am in the city to help keep the temp down. I would like to thank everyone in advance. THANK YOU.

If you keep the A/C turned on the fans run high and keep the temp lower in traffic.

Running the AC does turn on the fan. You can also just have the car tuned to have the fans turn on at a lower temp. With the tune, you won't have to worry about managing it. The car will do all the work for you. However, if you really want complete control, the Colit system does work well for most people. I know of one forum member who had problems with his, but everyone else I've heard from says that it works as intended.

If you do decide to get one I have the V2 version that's brand-new. I'll sell it to you at a very reasonable price. I'm the one who had issues that MWWarlord speaks of. I'm not going to be using it ever.

Hi,
If you go over 35mph the the fans will turn off, even with the a/c on. So in traffic if you have to move along at 36-40 the fans are off and that's not enough air flow for a C5 to draw
air from underneath to stay cool on a hot 100 degree day.
That's just what we have found during our testing on hot summer Sacramento days in traffic.
Thank you
Christian

Hi mstromquist,
What kind of issue did you have with your Coolit?
If it didn't work and you were not happy we would replace it or refund you. We have sold a few thousand of them with very few issues with them and if there
was we always stand behind our products and take care of it.
Thank you,
Christian

I had the remote one in my 98. The 98 got hot a lot as it had a supercharged 383 in it. It was nice to be able to turn on the fans with the push of a button. Very easy install too.

I like my Cool It and would not be without it. I call up high fan coming off track to cool things down cruising to my parking spot in the paddock. Also useful to reduce temperature cycling in traffic when A/C not on and when AC is off.

I really appreciate that. We worked everything out last year when I was having the issue with whatever was gong on with my car at the time. It most likely was an issue with my car and not so much the coolit. But it happened twice and right after I installed the kit both times. Most likely a coincidence but it made me really gun shy about installing it again. I did send in the old one at the time, you checked it out to verify it was working correctly and sent me a brand new one anyway. We’re all good with everything.

It’s a great backup when in traffic and I don’t want to use the a/c. Drops the temperature down to where I feel comfortable.

I thought the fans came on low, not high, with the A/C?? Now I'm not sure. Maybe I'm wrong........

I had the same problems with the Cool It V3 on my 2003, that MStromquist had with the V2 on his 98. It simply did interfere with the cars normal cooling system and caused it to run hotter, according to my cars temp gauge. After removing it, my car is cooling normally all by itself as designed. I cannot explain why, but it is a fact.

I have no plans to sell mine, because I do not wish to pass on the potential problem to another car friend. I did not ask for a refund because I had purchased it a while back (maybe 1-2 years) and I just figured out that the Cool-It was the problem after some further modifications.
I wrote a long detailed email to Sac City on March 6th explaining the issue in detail, and never got a response. See below:

Hello,

Just wanted to make you aware that my Cool it V3 does in fact interfere with my 2003 Z06's cooling system. I can't explain how, but after I removed it, my car is consistently maintaining temps that are perfect.

I am not requesting a refund, because I have had it probably close to 2 years now, but I will never put it back on my car, or sell it to anyone, because of my experience.

A little backstory. When I purchased it, I was having cooling issues due to modifications made by my supercharger installer. I had an ACI splitter which converted my C5 from a bottom breather to a front breather. The car never had cooling issues with the ACI splitter. Well, the installer cut the back of the tray off where it deflected air up to the radiator and condenser and ran an air deflector down from the intercooler to the tray area to pull air up into the intercooler.

This kept my intake air temps in check, but the car wasn't getting airflow up into the radiator and condenser. I had to put the factory center air deflector back on underneath the car, but it was practically touching the back of the intercooler, so it still wasn't getting adequate airflow.

That's when I purchased the Cool it. It kept the temps below 240, but never below 220. I basically quit driving my car, because contrary to most opinions, I just wasn't willing to take the chance on running it with temps that high. I show the car often, so I've been trailering it everywhere I went.

Over the winter months, I have replaced my ACI splitter with a new one. I had the tray extended an additional 2 inches and now it deflects proper airflow up into the radiator and condenser again. I cut the area behind the front license plate cover out and replaced the plate cover to one with the same racing type screen that is on the front of the car. I never even considered taking the Cool it off, and when I made my first trial run last week, I was so discouraged. The ambient air temp was only around 76 degrees and the car hit 220 pretty quick. It creeped up to about 225 before I got to a gas station to fill up, and I let it sit for several minutes with the hood up to cool off some. After I left and got away from town, even at highway speed (55) it was running 220-225 without the AC on. When I turned the AC on it hit 232 very quickly and I shut it off. It came back down to 225, but this is still just too high for these ambient temps. I never turned the Cool it on, because I wanted to see what the car did without it, after my work.

I came home and was so disappointed, I was sick. Then I remembered a Corvette Forum friend of mine had purchased a Cool it about the same time I did. I called him to refresh my memory, and when he installed the Cool it V2 on his 98, he said it made his car run hotter also.

At this point I had absolutely nothing to loose, so I took mine off but waited until the next day (Saturday) because of afternoon traffic. I didn't want to get out and chance it, not trusting the car to not overheat.

Well, Saturday morning I got out (expecting no difference and a quick return trip back home) but ended up driving 70 miles to Nashville Cars and Coffee on the 2 lanes, and the car did better than I ever expected. When I left home it was 57-62 degrees all the way there and it ran between 185-194 all the way without the AC on, wether moving or stopped. On the way back home it was 75-79 degrees and it maintained the exact same temps without the AC on. Getting braver, I ran the AC most of the way back and it stayed between 196-198 all the way home, even when stopped at traffic lights.

Again, I can't explain why, but the Cool it V3 did interfere with my cars cooling, somehow. I just wanted you to be aware of this, as it has happened to 2 cars that I am aware of, and happened with both type units.

Sorry this was so long, but I wanted to explain the full story and circumstances.

Nice write up there, Larry. Exactly what my car did and glad you figured it out. You might get slammed too by someone that has heard enough about issues with this thing....but I won't name that person....🤔 😏 🤭 You can see who that is if you scroll up a bit.

Thanks Mark.
Hey, if it works as advertised on someone else's car, that's great. I wish it had worked on my car also, but like in your experience, that's just not the case. I have actual data to backup my results/experience with it, and I know what the results were.
People should be informed of the potential issue before considering the product. There is a possibility it can interfere with the normal cooling system operation, with either version. This is not a vendor sale thread, and like you, I am only stating my personal experience, just like those who have not encountered any problems and are satisfied with the product.

If you've already tuned the car, own tuning software, or have someone who does it is pretty easy. The oem cooling system is pretty decent. I ran 10psi on mine with oem heads/cam and cooling but with the fans set to go full on whenever temps hit about 186, so when the thermostat opens up. Average temp was always 196*. It only peaked over 200 in stop-and-go on the highway on a day which was between 100 and 104 out on the pavement there. Not bad!

But if you want manual control, go for it.

I've bought at one time or another most of the SCC product line (save for their trans mount and this product) and have been fully satisfied with their product quality.
