Hello Corvette fans. It's been a long time. In July 2019 I purchased a C5 (2004) with the 16,900 miles. It was a beauty, convertible with manual transmission. I drove it to Lake George after owning it for two months and I had a stroke. Luckily the car was parked at the time. I spent four months in the hospital recovering. When I was discharged I only had a left side workable. My entire right side of my body is in paralysis and likely will be for the rest of my life. I sold the Corvette in May 2020. I cried that day, some of you might understand. I bought the car couple years before my retirement thinking this was the end of my bucket list. To my surprise it almost was but not the way I wanted it! Now I want to get a new car, another C5 but it would have to be a hardtop and automatic transmission. I'll have to install a left foot accelerator so I can drive it because my right foot is useless. I was wondering if anybody out there knows of a company that does left foot accelerator for the Corvette. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.
Wish you the very best with your health. Good Luck with the Vette and hope you can enjoy the automatic. I must say, you have a great attitude and an appropriate user name Sluggo... You don't have a wife named Nancy do you? (most of the young members won't get that joke)
Go for it...
Another option is to have hand controls installed for one or both peddles. This option is used by paraplegics so they can still drive their cars. They work great albeit can be expensive depending on the vehicle and modifications.
I learned the mechanical one and I had an electronic left foot accelerator installed in my Cadillac. I'm waiting for a date so I can have my Dodge Caravan modified. That's going to be quite the project because not only does it need the accelerator, it also needs a rotating driver seat and a ramp so I can get an a wheelchair in and out. So I'm quite familiar how this is done, I was just wondering if anybody has had one or seen one installed in the C5.
