Default HUD winshield

Does anyone know a way to replace a HUD windshield with a non HUD windshield and still get the HUD to work, is there a aftermarket product that can be applied to the windshield ?
From what i am seeing, HUD windshields are no longer available

Have you checked the dealer for actual part number differences? I have been told 2 different stories on the HUD windshields. One story said there's no difference, the other says yes there is. So I don't know which one is right, and which one is wrong!! The guy who replaced my windshield 5 or 6 years ago says they are different, with the HUD windshield being the more expensive, of course!! I've heard from others that they are the same. The conspiracy theorist in me suspects they are the same! But I wish I had a for sure answer for you.......

I will say that the HUD seems to work just fine on a standard windshield. I just put the HUD into my car that didn't come with it, and honestly the display looks perfect.
Maybe there is some circumstances where the HUD windshield will work better, but so far I wouldn't worry about it.

Same here. I can imagine HUD would be brighter on a HUD-windshield but I haven't seen one first-hand. On sunny days I can't really see the HUD if I'm wearing polarized sunglasses, though.

There is a difference. The HUD windshield has a coating on it. However, as said, the HUD will work without a lot of issues on a standard windshield. If you really want the HUD version, you could get one used from someplace like Vettenuts.

Safelite replaced my windshield a few years ago. Their website still lists a HUD windshield.

According to Tasca there are 4 windshields listed: Coupe w/ HUD, hard top (I assume they mean FRC)/Vert w/ HUD, Vert w/out HUD and Coupe w/out HUD. three of which are discontinued.

On my 2020 Buick Safelite messed up and installed a non-HUD glass in my HUD vehicle.. Their mistake and they said they would make it right but would have to order the HUD glass. (I wanted OEM glass) Takes a few days. I drove daily with the non HUD and it seemed to be ok, possibly a bit blurry. After installing the new HUD glass (its stamped HUD right on the glass) I could really tell the difference, image was so much sharper. So I'm guessing there is a difference. What the difference in the glass is I don't know but there was definitely a difference.

Keep in mind if you are replacing a Z06 HUD windshield they are thinner than the other (coupe, vert or FRC) windshields. A Z06 windshield I suspect would be hard to find in NOS condition.

Coupe w/HUD would be strictly Z06. Early FRCs never came with it, and the Z has thinner glass. That's why there's a different part number for it.

There have been many posts here on the forum that state replacement of a HUD windshield with a non-HUD version works fine. Do a search and you should get some hits.
