Default sad goodbye

A very sad goodbye to C5 General as I just sold my 04 CE Vert that I purchased new.
Been just a great car, almost part of the family.
C8 coming in October, and I hope it's half as reliable as my C5.
Thanks to all the members over the years (I've been here for 17) who have helped.
Steve

Sorry to see you go but happy to see you are getting a C8. Someday, I'll be doing the same.

Best wishes and I hope you enjoy your C8. I thought (briefly) of selling my 2004 C5 vert (also original owner) when I purchased my new 2019 C7 Z06 coupe in 2018, but I simply had too much of an emotional investment into the car. It was my first Corvette, I personalized (modded) it to my liking and it was simply worth way more emotionally to me in sweat equity than what the market offered for resale or trade. Three years later and I'm really glad I kept it because even though I really love my C7Z, the C5 vert is such a great car and a great top down cruiser that I still drive on a regular basis. Although it doesn't have the raw HP and platform upgrades of the C7Z, it still is exactly what it was in 2004 and that is a great Corvette.

I know everyone's situation is different, however congrats on your new C8 and enjoying a great C5 Corvette over the years.

Multiple generations really do get along!

It always makes me sad when people move on, but at least you are just upgrading! Congrats!
I’ll be joining you amongst the ranks of the C8 owners sometime in the next 2 years, but I don’t think I could ever let my C5 go. I just sold my Harley and I’m already suffering major sellers remorse.
Hope you’ll stick around in the C8 forum, but it’s a different crowd over there for sure!

Definitely sad to see you go. I suspect you'll miss your C5. Congrats on the C8 though. I can't blame you. I would really love a C8, but just can't make that happen right now. Hopefully once they become available on the used market, I'll get mine. I don't ever plan to sell my C5 though. I've put too much into it, and care about it too much. Good luck with the new car.

It was a sad day when I realized I couldn't keep my C5 and buy a C8. Luckily I have at least another year to enjoy the C5.

Funny how we tend to get an emotional attachment to a machine, but it certainly happens. I wish I could have kept my last two C5s, but it wasn’t in the cards. I now just love my C7 and I am sure after you get your C8, a new feeling of excitement will be there.

Congratulations on your C8 purchase I am sure that you will be very happy with the car. The C5 is a great car but technological advances of the C8 are unbelievable.

Id be lying if I didnt say I cried when I sold my C5.

I had the car for 15 years and put about 25000 miles on it

I modded it well and was fun to drive.

It was a convertible and when I was selling it I was thinking how many times my kids fell asleep in their child seat when we went out for a drive. I sold three cars since then without thinking twice about it, but the C5 got to me. I sold it locally three years ago, and kind of glad I havent seen it around town.

Now the kids bug me when they can drive the ZR1 I replaced it with.

I hear you on that!! The C5 was a huge leap forward for the Corvette. It was so good, that the next 2 generations used the same basic layout. The C8 is a rocket launch ahead in technology. I just hope GM has most of the bugs worked out.

Steve, nowhere is it written you can't pop in now and then!! Keep us posted on how much you'll love it. Never thought I'd see the day the entry level Corvette was only down 10hp from the C6 427!!!!

Happy road driving your new to own C8.

I will not own one because I enjoy manually shifting gears in a sports car. But I understand why the new tech cars are a favorite to many, No so with me but I am old school.

Just hope for you and all that bought the new C8's GM/Chev did a good job in making sure the parts suppliers had quality stuff unlike they did for the C5's.

Make sure you post your new ride on the C5 forum.

Not a fan of any Mid engine exotic supercars and that is what the Corvette has turned into. I like that the Corvettes before the C8 which have ALWAYS been a front engine sports car/ muscle car. That being said we do need people to buy the C8 to keep the brand name alive. Congrats on your Mid Engine Exotic Supercar!

I kept my C5 and the same thing I love it and it's part of the family but my C8 is just better in every way as it should be. The biggest thing that gets me is how awful the stock C5 school bus steering wheel is. 😂

Give all the love to the new one. They seem like a great option.

BUT - do come back and offer us neanderthals your comparison impressions going from one to the other. I have yet to drive one, so I am mildly guarded about loving them, but from everything I have seen so far they seem like GM knocked it out of the park.
