Your air pump that supplies filtered air to the exhaust at start up to help get the cats up to temp quickly.
If that’s the case, why do we install a larger intake with more surface area Like a black wing for instance?
Doesn’t the engine breathe easier with the bigger filter?
The air pump only runs for a short time during start up. It pulls filtered air to inject in to the exhaust to help with heating the catylitic converter. It does not reduce the air going To your intake . It can be capped and tuned out if desired. Many people remove it when installing headers, I left mine hooked up to my headers because I used a catted x pipe and they sent the headers with the air port.
I can't see how a well functioning air pump system could reduce perfomance.
Putting on a better air intake can improve performance but from what I've read its minimal unless you have other performance mods that need a better breathing filter.

it's hard to explain the way I’m able to screw things up.
I’m replying to another post on another topic I made.
I guess you can go with the standard (StevieB drunk) explanation.
