Default Rt headlight motor keeps spinning

The Rt headlight motor keeps spinning when I turn off the headlights. The lights go down all the way but I could see the motor spinning and making a lot of noise until I jiggle the switch handle up and down to make the headlight motor stop. Any thoughts.?

Time to change out the plastic gear that's stripped. Teeth are missing causing your issue. I installed the brass ones so they'd last longer. Depending on what year your car is will depend on how easy it is to change it out. The '97 - '00 are a bit easier. There's lots of DIY videos and pictures to do them.

Yep definitely stripped gear. I have a 2002 and just swapped the whole motor rather than deal with the gear change, but either will cure it.

If you do purchase a 2000-2004 headlight motor rebuild kit, be sure to purchase a kit that has the T shaped bar included (see pic). My understanding is that it keeps the gear cover from becoming unglued once it's reassembled. I saw the kit below on Amazon from Corvette Central. If you're going to do one side, you might as well do the other as well.

My 2001 did the same thing back in July. I do all my own maintenance on my corvette and I decided to replace the whole motor assembly rather than replace just the broken gear. The plastic gear lasted 20 years and cost the same as a brass gear replacement kit. I took my time and swapped out the assembly in about 40 minutes. Replacing just the the gear will add hours to the project waiting for the glue to set and cure on the gear housing cover. I bought my complete motor assembly on Amazon for about $55.

IF you have an older C5, I would do the gear swap. It it is a newer C5 that requires glue, I would just swap in a new motor. The replacement motors are pretty cheap.

I would probably do the same and just swap out the whole motor on both sides and get it over with. If you don't do a lot of night driving, then the new motors should last forever.

What year is your C5? You never mentioned it in your original post. The motor replacement or rebuild kit will depend on your C5's model year.
