Hi everyone. I'll be putting away my 99 C5 in a few weeks for winter and I am looking at doing plugs and wires during the winter. The car is bone stock except for a blackwing intake. Any suggestions on the best set of wires and plugs to use.
You'll likely get a lot of reccomendations on this.
For a primarily stock car...I would just go with GM Performance RED Wires (OEM on the C5 Z06) and the Stock AC Delco Irridium Plugs.
I've also run MSD 8.5mm red wires for many years but the GMPP red wires are cheaper and "a better wire than the LS1 OEM wires and the MSD 8.5s" per my engine builder/ machine shop. Replaced my MSDs with GMPP red wires 13 years ago and continue to replace with this same wire today.
I would start with No.7, the hardest to get to. You will have to disassemble some of the auxiliary air piping for access. Have a swivel or U- Joint spark plug socket available as well as a puller for the spark plug boots. Use anti seize on the new plugs and dielectric grease on the new plug boots. Old plug wires and boots are often pulled apart getting them off the plugs.
Just changed my plugs a week ago. First time on a C5. I found that offset needle nose pliers were ideal for ripping off the spark plug boots.
Have fun.
Cheers,
Mark
