Default Muffler/tail pipe mod thoughts

I'm going to throw this out there and get some opinions. I want a little more rumble out of my exhaust, but don't want to spend upwards of a grand for it. I know sometimes cat backs come up in the sale ads and that's probably where I'll get one at some point in time.
I was looking at Corsa's systems, and the Extreme Pro series have a "T" that sort of bypass's the muffler.
So, why couldn't I just install a short connector pipe between where the exhaust enters the muffler and where it exits to the inner tailpipe? If I use the same size as the tail pipe or even a little smaller it shouldn't be too loud, yet allow it to breathe, and hopefully sound better.
I'm fairly handy with a welder, and I've built/modified exhaust systems before. I built the exhaust system for my '81 Dodge Ram D150 that I put a Cummins 4BTA into, and the systems for my racers back in the day.
I guess the biggest concern is if the oem system is aluminized, which I can't weld. Well that and the concern of making it sound horrible!
This would be a winter project.
Well, lets hear those opinions!

Many here have done the bypass mod. I had it done on my 99 vert for $200 last year. It was a little louder than stock but I still wanted more so this year i had a Borla atak system installed. Love it.

This is a common mod, especially on the Ti exhausts. Yes, it will increase the sound a bit for a minimal cost.

What was the bypass mod? Where you install straight pipe passed the muffler to the tips?

You just dreamt up one of the most common C5 exhaust mods since the history of the cars existence, which I think is really cool because that means you analyze things well on your own IMO.

Why not? Aluminized exhaust get welded on every day.

Bypass is the way to go. Have had mine for about 20 years. Pick up a giveaway stock system somehow and get a shop or welding friend to bypass the pipes. A&A used to sell the pipes cutouts. I love the sound wide open and at normal driving it’s just perfect rumble.

Lol, for once I didn't come up with a totally bizarre idea!!
I was half expecting a bunch of "don't be a dipshift" type of responses.
Thanks guys.
That bypass mod link is exactly what I was thinking of doing, THANKS!
This will be on my list of winter mods to do.

I think you'll be happy with the results! One thing to keep in mind is the diameter of the pipe that you add. The bigger the diameter, the bigger the difference you'll get
