Pulled out of the garage and went about 30 feet and got the message - LF tire flat, do not exceed 55 mph, reduced handling. Checked the tire pressure and it was not low. Added air to 32 pounds and still got the message. I am guessing that the battery in the sensor died, after all it is original and 23 years old. Is this a reasonable assumption? Would replacing all 4 sensors solve the problem? Does anyone have experience with the Schrader sensors part # 28006 that are available from Rock Auto? Are there any problems installing/programming these?
My Right Rear sensor just died also - the remaining tires still show pressures. Now just have to clear the warning every startup. Not worth having to break down the tire just to replace the sensor. I have run flats and just will check it routinely till new tires.
Just FYI went to Belle Tire today on another car issue and the backlog just to look at a tire is a day or 2 leaving car there and appointments are 2 weeks out. It’s the end of the world when Belle can’t just immediately look at a tire (employee shortages etc no one wants to work!)

Evidently work is overrated. My car sat at the trans shop for a month to get the clutch and slave replaced. They have a huge yard and it was crammed full.

If you want the TPS feature to work on your car, then yes, I would just go ahead and replace all four sensors. Sensors usually last around 8-10 years so I would say you definitely got your money’s worth from the ones on the car now.

I don't know anything about that part#. IIRC, Schrader is the OEM supplier. You need the '97-'00 sensor, as the '01-up sensor will NOT WORK. BUT....I'm not certain that's your problem. I was thinking if the sensor battery is dead, it will display an XXX in the DIC. Again, that's IIRC!!!!

Wow, Belle is backed up that far?? You forgot to add something to the 'No one wants to work' statement. No one wants to work.....When they're paid to stay home, by Joe!!!

Sounds strange. I have a sensor out on my 2002 (for the second time since I replaced them all about 6 or 7 years ago), and all I see is XXXX for that tire, nothing about limiting speed.,

@rwlc5 I got my 2 sets of wheels with 28006, not problem as soon as you have a magnet to go around the stem. As many suggest, pair them before to assemble them on the car and identify their position so your tire mounting technician knows where to place them. Usually, when the sensor is dead, the DIC indicate --- and does not reduce speed. Here the sensor is identifying low pressure, therefore it is working.
my 2 cents.

I've had many TPS that died due to the battery age. Currently my red 99 has one dead. All I ever gotten was XXX for that tire. I've never seen the message "LF tire flat, do not exceed 55 mph, reduced handling" before.
I've had cops tell me not to exceed 55 mph though.
Problem has been solved. When I started the car a few days later the message was gone and the DIC displayed all 4 tire pressures properly. It's like a computer - shut it down and reboot!

yep it will be fine for a while, but later the problem will return. Ask me how I know.
